Broken fuel coupling

The plastic fuel line coupling that attaches to the gas tank was leaking and in my investigation of the leak it snapped of at the tank. In an earlier thread on this topic someone posted a link to the Colder company as the probable source for the original connections.

The connectors look like what come on the tiger

In looking at the Colder site I found what appears to be a metal version of the plastic fitting.

Anyone have experience with this part?

How old is your Tiger.? The fuel couplings are part of a recall and replace by Triumph. You can run your VIN number through the technical section of the official Triumph website or have your dealer check it out. Apparantly they replace the plastic with metal.

The Tiger is a 2001. What I have read in other posts is the recall is for the plastic part that was attached to the fuel line and did not cover the part that attached to the fuel tank. The parts of the coupling that are attached to my fuel line are metal, so I beleive they have been changed already.

I discovered the leak at 1 am this morning so I have not had a chance to call Triumph yet. We will see what they have to say in a few hours when I call them.

Just spoke with Triumph and the recall does not cover the female part of the coupling that screws into the Fuel Tank.

Their reasoning is that it is no evidence to support that the part is defective. The failures result because when re-installing the tank the part is bumped against the frame.

There is a metal replacement part that I am tracking down. For those of you afflicted with accute or chronic Farkllitis; I will post the source and part information when I find it.

Called Ma's and they remember when they carried them years ago

They were very helpful, spent time looking on other websites for me. I can see why people like working with Ma's; good people.

Snapped Fuel Connectors.

My first contribution to the site - just so happens I had cracked fuel connectors at the neck of the fitting. Real pain to get out the plastic remains. I will replace the plastic fittings on my 2003 tiger once I know the part no of the colder co. replacement. Anyone have an idea?

Cheers Everyone

Replace the o-rings and see if that fixes the leak. Only takes a small nick on one of the o-rings to make it leak and they're cheap at the dealer. I always keep a few on hand.

Broken fuel coupling

DobroDog (or anyone who knows) -did the Colder couplings fit/work on your tiger? I discovered the original plastic female had cracked at the plate this weekend when I awoke to a garage full of fumes and a gas puddle (after filling the tank on Friday).
How hard is it to get the cracked female out (there must be some joke there)?
I'm shocked that with the number of failures reported, that Triumph did not replace both plastic parts with metal during their recall.
Thanks for any help or insights,

Blake
