Somewhere in the back of my mind it was lurking about clutch recalls. Glad to see your dealer keeps up his good service standards though, I suppose you should never have received the faulty stock ones in the first place.

Got the cable replacements today no prob's, also ordered the recall fuel fittings, he even checked to see if there were any other outstanding recalls, which there is, the header tank hoses need to be checked to make sure they haven't been put on the wrong way round. I've never had a problem with my coolant so I am asuming mine are ok, but they must check them anyway.

The recall cables should have a red plastic shroud over the retaining pivot. My original factory fitted one didn't and niether did one of the ones supplied by the dealer, but curiously one did.
The stores guy appologised for not spotting it when he sold it to me.

I asked if they could just give me the fuel fittings and I would do them myself, but because it is a factory recall, they must do it. But the good thing is they use the proper tool for opening up the hose clamps, so they shouldn't need to cut the hoses.

A customer brought his R3 into the workshop with the Triumph sports pipes on, man what a sound. I heard it before I saw it, and knew it was a Triumph tripple, it IS loud.

Does anyone know what tune # we're up to now, I think I'm on #19. If there is a newer version I might just get them to download it when the bike is in for the recall work next week.

A good excuse to do another couple of hundred miles, especially if the air temp' is cold, the bike is much more responsive. :-D :-D :-D .

Further information on the clutch cable issue.

I had my bike 30,000K service yesterday and I had the clutch cable replaced to be on the safe side. My mechanic told me there have been 3 versions of the Tiger clutch cable.

The first had no red cap on the lever nipple and these broke regularly near this nipple. This was due to the nipple seizing in the lever as I mentioned above. Triumph modified this to add the red plastic nipple surround. This is the allow the nipple to move in the lever. This worked, but these cables actually fail easily at the other end where the cable exits the outer sheath down on the motor. Apparently just as often as the earlier cable.

My bike was fitted with this second version cable and I had a close look and it was significantly worn where the cable exits the outer sheath at the bottom.

I fitted a new cable and it is the third version. It looks the same and has the red nipple surround but is actually much thicker. Both the cable and the outer sheath are significantly thicker and I assume stronger.

My mechanic is unsure how long they have been around, but he has not seen one break - yet.

I wish Triumph would tell us this stuff. I kind of understand why, so they don't admit liability. But continuous product improvement is a good thing and I would like to know so that I can make an informed choice to retrofit my bike or not. I am sure riding a Tiger without a clutch is no fun and I don't want to find out.

Not much fun, but interesting. It's ok providing you don't stop the bike, and it will only change down when it is almost labouring.
I rode home about 30 miles without the clutch cable and didn't stop till I reached my gate.

I had to time the gap at each junction I came to and filter into the traffic.

Wouldn't like to do it again though.

I'll need to check the new cables against the old ones to compare the difference, if any.

Just compare the thickness of the cable and the outer. Both are quite obvious visually.
As we all know length counts, but it is better if it is thicker.

Then it definitely needs some lubrication.
