It's fixed. Now shifts like it was made in the land of the rising sun. Clutch disengages immediately when the level is pulled, no more waiting.

When I went back to pick it up after the 10000 km service and dealer's mechanic offered to take the clutch plates out and have a look. Back in a couple of hours later and it was all done. His original diagnosis proved right, the plates were sticking from suction due to being so smooth. He had seen this once before and roughened the surface for better lubrication and reinstalled. After a 4 km ride along the same route as his first test ride he confirmed it was now working as it should.

He also said that if it begins to do it again to lean the bike over while standing on the right side to get oil flooded onto the clutch. Apparently the clutch normally sits entirely above the level of oil in the sump and is only lubed by pump feed. I also asked if it was possible for the plates to get glazed and he said no, the originals looked just like new ones.

I can very much recommend Ride MC in Tamworth. They didn't charge me anything for the repair. I paid $279 for the 10,000 km service before they tackled the clutch.

It shifts so smoothly now I didn't even want to stop after the 2 hour ride home in the rain.
