odd coolant spitting problem

My '06 955i did something a little odd tonight. I got home from work and as it usually does the fan kicks on just as I pull it in the garage and I parked it on the sidestand as I always do. As I was getting my stuff off I heard this hissing sound and saw it dump about a half cup of coolant on the garage floor. It came out roughly from the area where the centerstand bolts to the frame.
Is that where an overflow is routed too?
There was still plenty of coolant in the overflow tank and the gauge wasn't showing particularly hot.
Any thoughts appreciated.

It's reasonably common, they tend to overfill the overlflow tank sometimes and when they get hot they do spit some out.

No point in filling it up, just keep an eye on it. It may be that it's just settled down to the right amount of coolant. If you're worried, you could have the radiator cap checked, and check that there are really no leaks.

Not especially worried. It had a slight coolant leak a while back which was a broken elbow on a hose. Since then no one has done anything with the coolant so it seems odd that all of a sudden it would do this.
If it repeats I'll have them look at the cap or some such.

Check under the water pump, you'll see a small hole on the water pump housing. If coolant is coming out of that small hole, the water pump will need replacing. I have just had mine replaced on warranty.

All the threads I've seen like this end up with it being the radiator cap being faulty. Trouble is, it's such a bastard to get to.
It does puzzle me because my cap is 49000 miles and 5 years old and it's still going strong. I've just renewed my coolant myself and nearly 1000 miles later it's still OK. I do wonder if they fill them up properly at the factory or dealerships...wherever they put the coolant in.

I've mentioned this before, but maybe you missed it last time....
My 1999 drips a bit of coolent about four times a year, always after going through a cold night. Now that's an Arizona cold night, anything much below 45F is cold for us. There are usually a few drops on the ground on the left side, directly below the radiator cap. I've had the bike apart and done numerous inspections, but of course the inspections are not right when the dripping occurs! I think the problem may be the cap unseating as the system cools and pulls a vacuum, then the coolant above the level of the radiator cap escapes. Once the engine gets back to operating temperature, the dripping stops. The worst occurance left a spot about two inches in diameter on the garage floor. I have found out that overfilling - even up to the max line - will get you a green-spotted left leg. It always happens when I'm wearing my "adult clothes" for the office! To me, it's just part of the eccentricity of a Proper English Motorbike!

FWIW there have been no further repeats of this behavior. I mentioned it to my dealer since they did the 12k service about 1000 miles ago and changed out the coolant then. He was also speculating it might have gotten slightly overfilled and now that our weather has warmed slightly it was enough to make it kick out the excess.
To be specific, this was no drip, this was a rapid dump of about a half cup of coolant. It came from the right side of the bike in the area just behind the engine about where the swingarm joins the frame. There was nothing around the waterpump area.
I'll watch it and see what hapens.
