Brake caliper rebuild.

I have about 55k miles on my 03 Tiger. I decided to rebuild the calipers when I changed the front pads today. I checked my local Triumph dealer and the seals for the calipers are ~$30 for each caliper. If I also wanted the caliper pistons the price is over $80 per caliper. Over $160 to rebuild the front calipers.

So I spent a little time on the internet and found that the Buell Blast from 2000-2005 used the same Nissin caliper. I called the local Harley shop and they were able to get me the piston kit that includes the seals..................for $13.60 per set. :-)

I did the rebuild today and saved ~$130 from what the Triumph dealer wanted. I can post the part number if anyone is interested.

Wow, thats staggering. One would assume the parts are the same except maybee the box they came in and a few bits of paper. I agree with you about rebuilding the whole part for that price. When you post the part number up I may buy a set and put them on the shelf for when I need them. Just curious, at 55k miles was there much sign of wearing in the parts you removed?

The parts are exactly the same, only the label on the bag is different. The Buell part number is H0020.T, Piston Set.
The Buell only uses one caliper which is the right hand side. The dealer told me he would sell me the entire caliper including pads for $95. If I ever need a right caliper I will be talking to him.

The parts I removed turned out to be fine. I have no doubt that I could have wiped them down and got many more thousand miles use. However, at less than $14 a set I don't mind rebuilding them.

Amazing how parts can vary. Once I was pricing turn indicators and found that Buell was using the same signal on the Blast that Ducati was using on the Monster. About $6 vs $40. Theres only so many vendors of this stuff out there, the disadvantage we are at is that we don't know whos building what.
Great find on these parts.

Didn't we used to have a sticky showing parts interchangeability? Or was that somewhere else? (just been out on the Velo so my memory's been a bit shaken).

Nice, timely post AVM, I priced up new seals for mine only last week at a parts shop, price £20.42p & VAT per caliper They said the seals are only listed by Triumph which I thought was a bit strange.

I take it the 03 calipers are the same as a 99ers?
