John, it sounds like it's a similar vibe to mine, but, mine was there from the first test ride and hasn't got any worse after 20,000km. I still have the same chain and sprockets from new.

It does sound like it's something different than the usual vibration and will be interesting to see what the dealer says it is.

The only problem I've had in my engine was a very tiny oil leak from the crank case having a pin hole in the cast in the neutral light switch seat. Triumph said they will warrant it by changing the cases, but I opted for an industrial strenght Devcon substance that has so far been successful since I plugged the leak 13,000 kms ago. Rather that than have some monkey pull the whole bike apart. Triumph basicall said they would warrant the cases for this problem for as long as I owned the bike, as I'd reported it and saved them a lot of cash by trying a fix myself.

The suggestion of the throttle balance is also a good one, worth checking out.

Mick

Thanks Mick, yes I shoud have acknowledge Dagad's post and meant to, Mike took the printed Tratnet page down with him to the dealer and I'm not sure if the carb balance was addressed.

This is now beginning to be more than just an ordinary vibration and Mike says he doesn't want to ride the bike as it is now in case it gets any worse.

Well something sounds if something has come adrift, Mike advises the carb balancing was brought up and the dealer said this would be checked when the bike was dropped in for the brake disk changes and more indepth check of the vibe problem.

One thing is for sure none of this happened on his '05 Tiger.

It'll be next week now before the bike is put in.

Thanks for the input

Well it's been one long continuous event to find the problem but the result is now in.

Mike gave his Tiger to the Auckland Triumph dealer whom he bought the bike from (incidentally this is the 4th Triumph and 2nd Tiger he has bought from this dealer).

The dealer appears to have just stored the bike waiting for Triumph to 'approve' the warranty repair without diagnosing what was wrong with it, he has only had it less than a year.

Not happy with the delay he withdrew it from that dealer and took it to the second Auckland dealer. AMPS, these guys were really helpful and three of them all tried the bike, one of them also owns a Tiger, and all agreed there was something wrong with it.

They gave it a new power tune-up which improved the handling of the bike in slow traffic but still the vibration persisted.

It was eventually tracked down to the front tyre which appears to have delaminated within the tyre letting air inside the body of the tyre itself. The tyre which was stock, Michellin Anakee was replaced along with the rear (with Metzeler Tourances). Problem disappeared. AMPS said this was the second case they were aware of that the Anakee had delaminated.

Well there you go! Chalk that up on the board for problems with a solution. It is the same over here with different dealers, some you trust, others you don't take your bike to!

I've just came back from a ride with Mike, he also mentioned the original dealer did change the discs (front rotors) under warranty so they came to the party on that. It's possible that this dealer has lost some experienced mechs as they had a top shot Triumph mech and he left to go to another dealer (A Suzuki dealer) and left them too soon after. I believe he's now out of the industry altogether, pity.

Vibrations

Try to keep engine speed about half way to the red line. This gives good throttle control for cornering and the best acceleration too, the engine will feel much sweeter.

Thanks for your tip davyl but Mike can ride and can probably blow most riders away but he is comparing his 06 Tiger with what it used to be like and what his 05 Tiger was like. Now he's had more running time on it with his new tyres he still feels it has been fixed 99.5% of what the problem was and will now probably live with it.
