Going to try a new tune

Well going in to dealer in morning to try loading a new tune to fix surging issue.

Dealer suggested loading a 02 Sprint tune. Says that is a closed loop system that eliminates the o2 sensor. Figure what the heck will give it a try if it doesn't work will load back the Off Road Tune and install the o2 sensor eliminator. If it saves pulling the tank for now it's worth a try.

Will let you know what happens......................

Even more confused as closed loop means to USE the O2 sensor to close the loop. I.e. the ECU checks the O2 sensor, checks the percentage against the programmed figures for those revs and throttle opening and adjusts the mixture, when it then checks to O2 sensor ....... therefore a loop?

Open loop means set the amount of fuel for the programmed throttle and revs and don't check anything to adjust it.

Anyway this is my understanding? I am prepared to be corrected.

New tune hasn't worked, yet. took it to dealer, they loaded one tune and the bike idled bad. so while loading another tune the battery went dead and things went downhill. The computer would fail each time they tried to load a tune, any tune. they tried everything they knew and no luck. so bike is sitting at dealer again. they will try again on monday and if no go they can't call triumph till tuesday because of the holiday. at least the weather stinks this weekend so it's not like I would be out riding.

Well for what it worth... This is my first bike with E.F.I.. My Tiger seemed to surge at slow speed. I read if you start it from cold and let it idle and shut it down after the fan kicks in it it " re-sets itself after a few starts". I used to ride off as soon as it was going. Now I let it warm up before it ride off and its running with no surging. Stock 06 Brit spec Tiger.

Kiwi - I think you're right...

You start the bike and DONT touch anything, no clutch, no revs - just leave it! After around 9 or 10 (or 11) mins or the fan kicking in - the tune will reset.

RT: Is it a Triumph dealer? There is a thread on here with the number for the tune you should be using - it is linked to the VINumber - if i remember right - an '05 or '06 should use 10121 - have a search...

Done the search - hope it helps...
TOR:
A 955 Tiger to VIN 206546 is tune 10121
A 955 Tiger from VIN 206547 is tune 10173

Yes Chris it's at the dealer. Tired the stock tune, offroad tune both still surged. Was talking with service mgr last week and told him I got O2 sensor elminator to install and was going to install this weekend. He said before going that route he would check with Triumph. They suggested using a tune from 02 Sprint that would bypass the o2 sensor to see if that eliminated problem. It had been used successfully by others in the past. There is I think 4 tunes for the Sprint. The first one took but the bike idled like c**p. The battery died during attempt at 2nd tune and it will downhill from there. Am wondering if it was just a low battery at that point that would not allow the tune to load. They were putting on deep cycle charger for the rest of the weekend. Have to run up there and get my sunglasses out of the topbox and will see if they tried it after charging the battery.

Hmm usually warm the bike up but not for that long before taking off.
