o2 install question

Ok, any tips out there for installing the o2 sensor? Arrived today think I am going to try and install this weekend. From previous post look's like I have to remove the tank for ease of access.

Swapped bikes with my buddy today. He also noticed the surging so at least it's just not my feeble brain.

Now for a dumb question. Is it possible the off road tune was not loaded correctly? The first time I had it done the bike ran like a champ, till it fouled the plugs. After time in shop and it was running (and surging) on OEM had ORT re-installed. Nothing like the first time, surging actually worse around 30-35 mph and 2500 - 3000 rpm, a.k.a. around town driving.
Should I have them re-install the ORT prior to putting in the o2???? My buddy thought the exhaust smelled like it was running rich, or is this just from ORT? Just hope this fixes the problem, really liking this bike except for this one issue. If this doesn't fix it I may have to consider making a move to something else.

Just disconnect the O2 sensor at the loom and run the bike.
My 2001 955i model runs beutifully without it connected (no surging or interefing from the ECU) and I don't get any engine warning lights that it is disconnected.
After 5000miles like this I have noticed no extra fuel consumption or poor running.

Highly unlikely that the tune didn't install properly and in any case, the o2 sensor overides the tune values at lower revs, which, causes the lean out surging thing.

Do you ride the bike hard and use the revs? If you short shift and generally don't rev motorcycle engines, they often choke up and start running rough.

Maybe that's part of problem, around town shift at normally 3000 and 4000 rpm. on highway rev higher before shifting.

The offroad tune will either load or it won't. If the load fails, it reads as much on the display. For some reason my the offroad tune didn't load the first time it was tried on my bike (I was standing there watching the tech) but it did the second time. If you had a careless tech, it is possible that he didn't pay attention to the screen and just disconnected the harness, but that is pretty unlikely.

I say disconnect the O2 sensor, then go ride the hell out of it on a weekend road trip!

Good suggestion Ziaduck.................Planning on putting some miles on this weekend unless it's pouring rain again.

Rev the nuts of it occasionally. You've got to be cruel to be kind. It'll love you for it in the long run.
