Unhappy

Bought my 05 tiger last september and had the knocking noise for thee whole time since and done 12500km with it. During this time I have been to the dealer on numerous occasions. They have replaced the head bearings they have completely stripped the forks checked every part for wear, confirmed the components with Triumph HQ reassembled the forks and tested the bike only to return with a negative result.

As so many of you have already mentioned Triumph have stopped being helpful and have now indicated that the bike is not under warranty and that the noise is "normal". And as so many of you have mentioned, it is annoying to continuously heat the clunking when going over the slightest bump.

I am mechanically inclined and usually don't give up once I find something that can't be explained. This is one of those so wonder what my next step is. Is there a way to do something collectively???

Anyone still wanting to do something here?

sixtyfive,

I really can't see that the dealership and Triumph can do any more for you.

They've replaced the headbearings and stripped the forks, not much left.

I must admit that I only hear the knock occasionally and at low speed. I just
ignore it.

Have you looked at other possibilities?

Talking

The part I struggle with is that although there seems to be an explanation, there is no mechanical solution offered. Whether or not this is a warrenty claim/repair shouldn't matter, if I was just made aware of what remedy can be applied to get rid of this knocking. Overall the bike is unique and and I love the roll-on power. Recently looked at replacing it with a Suzuki V-Strom DL1000. Very similar structure altough the Suzi is a V twin, same power and torque but no knocking.......

Anyway my thoughts were if we were able make noise together perhaps we could get a resolution.

Well guys, the Hagon springs & oil were fitted at the 2 year service. The ride seems to be more controlled and best of all........................... the clonk has gone. So sixftfive it seems there is a solution and at a very reasonable cost. Check out their web site.

Cheers DAGAD, I will follow the HAGAN link and see where it takes me. Are you able to share what it cost you to get done? Not sure if it is available in my neck of the woods, ie New Zealand

Any chance those new springs were coated with something like a plastic film?

Are they longer than the OE springs?

One of the bicycle fork manufacturers resolved clunking in their forks by coating the spring with a plastic film. As the spring compressed it would bow into the lowers.

Iv's just changed my fork oil to 15w. I have left the standard springs fitted. The front is stiffer, the forks don't dive on Braking and yes the clunk is gone.

The springs and oil are in a kit from Hagon. The springs are progressively would unlike the originals which are linear, they are not coated with anything. The oil in the kit is 7.5 weight. The conversion was done as part of the 2 year / 12,000 mile service where the oil is changed anyway so no cost was incurred, in fact it was cheaper because I supplied the oil. North or South Island?

Smile

Thanks DAGAD, am in Wellington, that is North Island. Listening to what most 04-06 Tiger owners are saying, they all do it but if you change the oil from factory (7.5W) to 15W there is a good chance it will go away? Also if the springs are removed with progressive once (coated) this could be a solution?

Will see what my mechanic says after he has had a chance to finally get some detail about all of this.

As we say here, go and ride forever and if you go under, do it with a smile
