Jim, a great improvement to an already brill' site.

finished fitting tango's new brake pads and hoses and bled the system.

For those of you who have never bled the front brakes be prepared for a long haul and a lot of fluid, and if poss' get assistaqnce from someone who has plenty of patience, coz it's a long reach between the lever and the left hand bleed nipple, and if your back is anything like mine it will cripple you. Also because the whole system is empty you need to crack open all the joints one at a time to force any trapped air out.

The fluid needs replacing ewery two years.

I put Goodridge S/S hoses on, with a clear plastic coating over them, should keep them nice and shiny. The front link pipe supplied was much longer than the oe, it doesn't clip into the fender, but to my eye it looks ok, and I wish I had got a black coated one for the rear, the clear looks better on the silver tiger.

I am impressed with the finish on these hoses, top grade stainless is used throughout and the machining of the fixings is top notch.

I'm a
:-D chappy.

On the subject of bleeding brakes, some triumphs seem to be affected with the problem of the brakes slowly getting air into the system so that over time the lever comes back to the bars. Its particularly bad on sprints. Through trial and error I think I have the answer.
The hole in the bottom of the cylinder that feeds into the piston has a slight sharp edge. When you brake suddenly it introduces a bubble effect. I have found that the recommended level of fluid is too low and air gets in.
If you add the fluid to the top of the line as viewed from inside the cylinder ie to the top of the glass from outside, then the problem disappears and the brakes stay sharp and pump free. I think the level marker is a minimum and not an aim point.
Hopes this helps someone. It cured my brakes from gettting spongey.
Nice work on the new Forum

I have an 02 tiger and the brakes seem fine. Should they be bled anyway. Or is the the type thing one would begin to feel in the action of the front brakes.

thanks!!!!!!!!!

As a matter of routine the brake fluid should be replaced every two years, how critical this is not sure, but it's what Triumph recommend.

The old fluid I took out was really cloudy and discoloured as you would expect compared to the fresh stuff, but I know my brakes are now in good order.

I agree with the comments about changing fluid etc etc, its just a fault with the odd bike. A colleague of mine drives a Y reg sprint and no matter how much the brakes are bled, if the bike is left for a while the lever will pull all the way back to the bars. Mine being a non std tiger started doing similar and putting the extra fluid in cured it. Something dealers were unable to do to the sprint.
