Angry Tiger Stripe decals - replacement

Hi all. Put my bike into a local shop to have some work done and they took a chunk out of one of the decals on the tank when they leant it over to get to some of the engine bolts. As you can imagine, I wasn't very happy. I see the stripes are under the lacquer on the tank. They said that they will sort it out but does anyone know how this needs to be done properly?

Ouch!............ of all the things to damage, it would have to be the stripes

The stripes are very expensive (understatement to avoid the censor!) and it really needs to be done properly if the repair is going to match properly. There are numerous coats of lacquer on top of those stripes and it will look naff unless it is professionally done.

Do not accept anything less than a proper job done. They damaged it, it is their responsibility..end of!

Not going to be cheap

Nothing worse than when someone you trust to do a job makes a horlicks !!!!!!!

The only proper way to have this done is a complete respay of the tank and I mean whole tank, all laquer has to be removed to get to the stripes and then these have to be lifted and a new set laid on. Then the small case of rebuiding the layers of laquer.

They broke it they pay for it !!!!!!!!!

Red face

That is an expensive job. When I had my 03 silver tiger damaged by a car driver it scraped the paint and decals. The dealer fitted a new tank complete as it was cheaper than a re-spray. Honest...!

dont put it through your insurance, you end up losing your no claims, and you pay more next year,so you lose all round, get them to sort it out, they did the damage.

or sort it on there insurance, but dont tell yours!

What does it cost for a replacement tank vs the respray? I have scratched up my decals too (my fault) but didn't even think of doing an insurance job for all the reasons above (no claim etc).

What sort of cost is involved here? If it was real expensive it would almost be worth getting a custom paint job.
