I think if you do your research around here you'll find the responses generally positive. There are a few weak points on the Tiger (although not everyone has suffered these) but that's true of most bikes IME.

It probably comes down to if you want one you'll put up with its foibles - if you don't, or have been "persuaded" into one then every little niggle becomes a major issue. I love mine and it's been absolutely reliable (OK only 15,000 miles).

Ohdiesel's experience is AFAIK unique, although I have to say the dealers' service departments I have encountered are rubbish and I now do all my own maintenance.

True, a little alcohol in the tank never hurts. If you find traces of water in your fuel filler neck, most likely there's water in your fuel system. With all those tank removals/installations, someone must have flipped hoses around and presto! no more water drain.

I'm literally on my way out to test ride the 07 1050 and came across this thread. I'm still going to give it a shot, but I'm very curious as to the result of your situation. I have a mechanic out here in California that builds race motors, but also is a staunch Triumph fan. Says Triumph will back up all there bikes fully. Told me the other day that he had a 98 Triumph that the company warrantied. That's 11 years later!!! Could be the CEO's best friends son, but still, that's standing behind the product. Have you spoken to anyone who actually works at the Triumph Factory?

I'm seriously weary about buying the bike now. Just may wait another year. I have a 96 Tiger myself and it's great. But I wanted to upgrade. maybe not now.

To be honest you get the odd story like this about any bike. The number of 1200GS's that have had blown engines,final drives and electricalat low mileages is.....well...if you read the forums you'd think its every other bike but clearly its not. A friend of mine has GS and hasnt had a single issue.

Similarly another guy I know has a lovely black 1050 from launch and it hasnt missed a beat, but obviously he doesnt make a thread about it as it would be a bit dull!

Edit - Not trying to trivialise the OP at all - if I'd bought a new bike and it turned out to be problematic I'd be pretty furious too, I just mean that every make has its odd lemon or too

Sorry to hear all these problems with this great bike. I have to say that I only have 1 complaint and that is it's suspension, very spongy, even after adjusting it to the max. The suspension could use some improvement for sure. Other than that it has been reliable. Regarding the rattle in the dash I solved that by taking the front nose cover off and readjusting the rubber strip inside, it need to be moved down as it rest on the metal framing. I'm sure Triumph is looking into these type of issues

I believe OHdiesel has moved to the Beemershcooter forum, he hasn't been to this forum for 4 weeks.

If my memory serves, OH had bought the bike in Sydney, had a problem and then had to get it repaired in QLD under warranty. There "appeared" to have been some parts of the story left out, to make Triumph look bad. As far as I know, his is the ONLY 1050 that's had such severe problems, and they're not all Triumph's fault.

As others have said, there are lemons and Friday bikes with all makes.
