Question Imperial fasteners on 06?

Am I going mad?

After receiving my GS1150 handguards this morning (thanks, Mum) I have enjoyed a tinkering session in the garage this evening. Did the usual bloke thing, played around with the bits and pieces before reluctantly taking a peek at the instructions. Anyway, the left guard went on OK so I thought I'd finish off the job tonight and do the right one.

It appears that the angle of the brake line needs to be adjusted slightly so out came the spanners to loosen the union bolt holding the brake line onto the m/cyl. Tried a 14 socket and it did not feel right - so tried a 14 open ender and it was too small. 'Ah, must be a 15', thought I. Oh no it's not! The 15 is way too big. It turns out that an imperial 9/16th AF seems to fit the best. The thing is, it was 11.30pm and I was a bit baffled by this so I decided to call it a day. I remember changing the brake lines on my steamer and I'm sure they were metric.

Like I said, am I going mad or are there really any non-metric fasters on the Tiger?

Whats so good about them that warrants the change?

Can you post pics? Cheers John.

hand guards

cheers for this thread Jonny. I had 1150 hand guards on my TDM and wondered if they would easily fit on to my 06. Now I know, hand guards on order.
In answer to the previous thread 1150 hand guards are made from a very tough plastic that fixes to your bars but then secures into tapped holes in your bar ends. They are much stronger and i belive offer more weather protection.

if they fit to the ends of the bars, do they inhibit the use of a throttlemister?
and how much do they cost? my experience with BMW's is that if i cost $100 on a triumph then it cost $400 on a BMW.

Total price, including VAT and delivery was £58 from Motobins. Add to that the Touratech spoilers which I am yet to fit and you are still coming in at less than £100

Post a piccie ?

I have spied this thread, and had a good look today at a the GS handguards in a beemer stealership. I think they are better than those flappy things we have and at £58 seem good value.

Any chance of a photo and confirm they do fit without a 'bodge' as such ? Many thanks

I got these off Triumphtigeronline for about £35. With a secondhand pair of Tiger guards zip-tied to them, less than £50 all-in. They look a bit bodged, but cheaper...
