Lower shock bush removal (again)

Hi

I've read all the threads on this subject and still have one question:

Does it matter which side I drift it out from?

I'd guess that the "leave the exhaust in place" camp woud have to drift from the left, but at least one post says it has to be from the right.

I've started from the left because it's easier to see what's going on, it moved 3mm no problem but hasn't budged since, so before I hit it any harder I thought, like many before me, that I'd ask you lot.

I've had the rear swingarm out twice in the last couple of weeks. See the thread "She Busted!" to see why! Both times I drove the bush out from the left, using a 3/8" socket extension as the drift. It's just a bit smaller, and a bit softer than the bushing. It took some serious smacking with a good sized hammer to get it going, and was lots easier - but not real easy - the second time. The first time I removed the exhaust, a real pain with the panniers. The second time I took the swingarm pivot out first and was able to move the swingarm to the rear to get more room to work on the shock bush. It even gave enough clearance to drive it from the right without removing the exhaust if I wanted to. I can probably now R&R the swingarm in less than an hour! But I don't plan on doing it anytime soon! Too much fun!

Thanks, that gave me the confidence to hit it a bit harder, new shock is now installed. I took Big Stripey's advice and loosened the downpipe nuts a bit rather than removing the exhaust entirely. The bush went back in really easily once cleaned up and greased

Glad that's over.
