As Davie says, you can do almost all of it yourself if you are handy with a wrench. Like you i prefer to know that it has been done properly!

I have got the Triumph shim removal tool, so i can do that as well (It does build in a delay because you have to get the shims after you have stripped it all down and measured them all etc), but the one thing that is really hard to do yourself on these efi Tigers is balancing the throttle bodies. This really has to be done on the computer analyser at the shop. I tried to do it with a good set of vacuum gauges but they are just not up to it. So i have to have the dealer set them up for me.

But it saves me a shed load of money by doing it myself! Fuel filter is a pain because it sits on top of the pump inside the fuel tank. But do not be tempted to skip this. I could not believe the crud that came out of my filter at 12,000 miles !

All in all the parts come to about £100 GBP saving me about £350 GBP

Cheers

By the way TigerPilot - you did find the Maintenance Schedules under "Downloads" on this site, right?

I'm in Austin Texas and the local dealer told me $200-$300. I'm looking to buy the bike used from him but have no reason to doubt his estimate.

The bike I'm looking at had a top end problem. A previous mechanic adjusted the mixture too lean and caused the problem.

I know nothing about this bike yet so it is a bit concerning trying to figure out what I can do myself and what will go to the dealer.

Good point. I haven't ventured very far on this site yet. Thanks

Even though your valve adjustment interval is 12 miles, do not go that long. I repeat: DO NOT GO THE FIRST 12K BEFORE ADJUSTING YOUR VALVES!!!! I did mine on my 955i at 11,500 miles and 4 of the six intake valves had NEGATIVIE CLEARANCE!!!!! They were abou .004" held open.

I mentioned this to my Triumph mechanic friend and he was falling all over himself beiing sorry for not telling me to do them at 6k. He does every Triumph at the 6k point then 12k intervals. He forgot to tell me because I do my own work and it just slipped his mind.

So, do them at 6k, then 18k, 30k etc.

Not hard. I did it the pull the cams method and had them done in 4 hours even going to the dealer for shim swaps.

DO NOT WAIT UNTILL 12K. Did I say it enough?
