Tyres or Tires Question

I have on my 2005 Tigger Michelin Anakee's the rear is now worn
Question?
Can you fit a tyre with a lower speed rating ie:H instead of a V rating
Co's the H is much cheaper on Dbay. £70 V £104
The H tyre is supposed to be ok for 120mph
I won't be doing more than that anyway is the compound different or what?

There is loads of life left in the front and it's a shame to replace both, so I thought the cheaper option till I come to change the pair.

I fancy road bias tyres when both wear out.

I think you will find that it is illegal to fit a tyre with a speed rating less than that specified by the manufacturer even if you never travel at that speed.

It may be tempting to go for the cheaper option but just think of the consequences if something were to go wrong, even if it was not your fault you could still get done for having the wrong tyre on!

Bite the bullet and get a pair of Battlewings, you will not regret it.

Andy.

PS. It's St Marys Loch, and it is a great road to travel in the evening when there is no one there.

If your bike has alloy wheels its tubeless !!

go back to the tyre site and put this in the boxes...........

110____80____R____19

V____

Bridgestone
..........................................

150____70____R____17

V____

Bridgestone
.............................

it should show you the right tyres, BW501 and BW502 if your going for them instead of a rear Anakee.

have fun !!

KK

ps i just put this stuff in both tyres !! http://www.ride-on-uk.com/product.php?xProd=3&xSec=6

KK" sorry my fault I knew they were tubless I thought the site didn't, the problem was mine i forgot to put the R in but all is clear now thanks and at £126.80 a pair they are now on order. Thanks again for that.

I have been using ultra seal in my tyres for 3 years my last bike a fully luggaged GSXF 750 (yes I know a teapot) around Europe twice on Conti road Attacks (which are a fantastic tyre and I have thought about these for the Tiger but will try these first )and all the riders I was with had at least one punchure Me NONE and if I did Blue rubber would fill the hole .

I know there is debates about changing your tyre at the earliest oportuninty but ultra seal says you don't need to it lasts the life of the tyre.

All I can say is in Three years Three sets of Conti's and now in my Anakees I have had No punchures and no problems.
I think for around £16-£20 off fleebay every biker in the World should use it all may mates do now, By the way I don't work for this Company.

Thanks again for aal the advice on this post.

But have you found any nails in the tyre that the Ultra seal has sealed?

I've (and I'm clutching a piece of wood as a type this) never had a puncture on my Tiger in 47000 miles. Before that, 50000 miles on my R100GS, I only had one, and I'm not sure that anything could have sealed that one because a bloody great screw went in through the tread and out of the side wall just below the rim. It's luck, you see.

speed ratings on tyres

I had 15 years in the tyre trade-
ultimately owning a shop selling to car/van users, we would welcome bikers with punctures as they were self-sufficient, and up the creek without a paddle.
Now I am a biker!
re- speed ratings and legality.
As far as I'm concerned it is ok to fit tyres to your vehicle of lesser rating than OE(original equipment).Winter tyres are not at the same rating as "summer tyres" for example.
It's all down to the "construction and use regulations".
Basically if you're knicked at 135mph on H rated tyres you're knicked twice.
H=130mph T=119mph
Speed symbol - Maximum kmh mph

N 140 87
P 150 93
Q 160 99
R 170 106
S 180 112
T 190 118
H 210 130
V 240 149
W 270 168
Y 300 186
(for your info -car stuff really);
if your car is fitted with W-rated tyres, and you tow a trailer, then in the UK that trailer may have T-rated tyres (if applicable), but in France your trailer tyres' rating should match that of the tow vehicle.( change tow vehicle tyres!-Hi speed caravan tyres?-I don't think so)
Re ; puncture sealant,
The Police don't use it. If an object penetrates the tread and protrudes inside it could damage the cords from the inside leading to a blow-out.
They ,however have a radio and recovery trucks ,get paid to wait.
hope this helps
