Hi Boys, I'm trying to figure out the latest problem with my 91 Tiger. I just replaced the Ignition Sensor & the bike was running great got it up over 200kph last week & it was sounding good. I did get a new front tyre & had to ride in the rain a bit but I took it slow and easy.
I bought the bike with 30,000km on it & it had the valves checked at that time. The bike was in storage for 5 years &
when I bought it 3 years ago I had to do some extensive carb cleaning, all sorts of gunk in there gel & stuff. Also cleaned the tank & fuel filters. The bike has 51,000km on it
now. The excelleration is smooth & steady up to about 135kph then it struggles to get up to 140 and thats it.
There is still a 1/4 thottle left but it's just boggy or flat.
Airbox is good I put a K&N filter in 3 years back, just cleaned it & oiled so it's ok. Plugs are new this year. Tanks vent is clear I even tried riding with the cap open to see if that might make a diff. but no. Could it be a coil or the valves?
Any help would be appereciated.
Thx Cory

Don't these carbs have diaphragm thingies in them which can stiffen up with age, especialy if the bikes not been used ?

Hate to raise any hopes I've answered your question but there are a few posts on here about replacement carbs, have a search and see if its down to the same problem.

Don't have a steamer myself, but, when you cleaned and oiled the K&N, did you have to remove the airbox from the carb rack?

Are you sure it's all connected up to each throat correctly with no kinks in the rubber?

I'd start with the last lot of changes you made. What did you do, and did you put it all back correctly? Do the carbs need re-balancing? Do you have the correct plugs? Is there a fuel filter somewhere that may be clogged?

The last thing you did was get a front tyre fixed, then ride in the rain? Did the speedometer drive go back on correctly?

Just a few thoughts....

Mick

Thanks For your thoughts, I'm checking for air leaks I'm sure it's a carb issue.
