So, The 2002 Tiger I bought used just a little over a month ago had the stock and orginal battery in it. It would not hold a charge more than a few days. I got the local triumph shop I bought it from to front me a battery.

They had a ***** hard time coming up with the right number for it. I even had to look it up on lightspeed for them.

So they order it, it doesnt come in the first weekend I stop by and they say they will order me the sealled battery for my bike and I leave thinking, Ok I'll get an upgraded battery.

So the next weekend comes and I go in and no one seems to know***** about my battery. The salesman I worked with is busy with a customer so they get the PDI dude to look. and he sez,Tiger? oh yea, here! and hands me a battery. I'm happy and I leave.

Come Sunday, I go to install said battery and lo and behold it's not the same dimentions. Little shorter, little wider. It fits in the compartment though so I just feel it's an upgraded battery and it's a little different in size.

I hook up one side and just as I'm about to hook up the other, I notice the terminals are REVERSED on this battery, Unlucky for me I dropped the negitive cable and it touched the battery post with a spark. Damnit!

So the fuse is blown, I replace it.

The bike is still dead.

Now I'm at a loss, could that little .5 second shot cook the brain box? am I missing a fuse somewhere else on the bike?

Any help would be apreciated, laugh all you want. I did.

:-D

I'm sure someone will come along with a better answer, but provided the ignition wasn't switched on I can't see how the ECU could have been affected, although the regulator / rectifier may be a different matter. Have you put the correct battery in now? Have you checked all the fuses? Does anything work? (I'd expect at least some lights to come on).

Commiserations anyway.

Nothing comes on and all fuses are correct and good. Yes the ignition was off at the time.

Thats what has me baffled, it's just completely dead

Pardon me if you have all ready, but, there is a fuse on the left side of the battery box, did you check that one?

It is a 30amp fuse and is mounted to the side of the plastic battery box... It's hard to see... I'll bet that is the problem...

ummmm.... did you check the new battery with a multimeter to make sure it had a charge? That's where I'd start, then look for dud fuses.

Just because it's a new battery doesn't mean it will be fully charged and ready to go.

Miker- The problem is the terminals on the new battery are reversed in the new Tiger. The PDI kid gave me a tiger battery, just for the new tiger.

Yes, I found the hidden 30 amp fuse on the side of the battery box and sure enough it was crispy. I replaced it and all is well with the world.

Thanks for the insight guys, never would have thought to look for a fuse anywhere but the FUSE BOX!
