Hi

You shouldn't have any more than about an inch of slack in the chain.

tloftis, do you have a 885, 900 or 955? If so, the chain adjustment is more like 45mm (well it is for the 955) but most riders have reported better running with ~50mm.

The handbook states that this should be measured with the bike on the sidestand.

I cannot advise on the 1050 though, in case this s what you have.

The chain on my 06 when set as Triumph states as 45mm max, was way too tight once you sit on the bike.

Throw away the specs and sit on the bike off the stand, then put someone else on the back with you. Check the slack in the mid point. It should be about 10mm or 3/4 inch fully loaded. Once you have this set, get off the bike, put it on the stand and check the slack, it will probably be between 50 and 60 mm, you can use this measurement for the future. If it's more than this, you can wear the sprocket from the chain riding up on the teeth, if it's less you may damage the bearing or seal of either the countershaft or the rear wheel.

Too tight is way bad, just right is the best, and too loose is better than too tight.

Mick

I am a new '06 Tiger rider.

So the measurement on the side stand for a 200 lbs. rider should be approx. 1 1/2 inches.???

Thanks, Dick

I find with the chain set to the manual it makes a whine noise on the over run. I set it so it is tight enough not to snatch at low speeds and slack enough not to make the whine (which is due to overloading of the drive train I reckon). This is around 50mm or 2" set with the bike on centre stand.
