About to buy a 2006 955 Tiger (new), and I was just wondering what you can do to improve the front suspension, as there are no adjustments you can make as standard ??

Hopefully, I would like to get rid of some of the "Big Trailie" fork dive when braking.

Cheers,
Graeme.

Hi,

Although the later model 955's were fitted with uprated springs, they are not as effective as aftermarket springs. I have found the Hagon progressive springs to be excellent as an alternative. Not sure if Ohlins make them but i believe WP do.....

Be careful about just upping the viscosity of the fork oil. Filling them with thicker fork oil will definately slow the dive down, but it will also slow down the overall response time of the suspension. If that response time is way different from the rear, then you could be in for an interesting ride.

Adjusting your riding style helps a lot too. Basically if you lead in with the back brake, then bring in the front, then ease of the rear it settles the bike down nicely and significantly reduces front end dive.

Sounds a bit awkward, but it becomes second nature after a while....

just my thoughts..................

Graeme, the front end on my 06 is fine - it's the OE rear shock which gives up first. I would describe the rear shock as 'OK' and I'm going to replace mine with a Hagon or smilar. There are complaints about the occasional 'clunk' heard when the fork shuttle operates but it's never bothered me.

My Steamer had uprated springs and the front end on that was not as good as the OE on the 06 (but the rear WAS better!). I'm not suggesting that the front suspension cannot be improved with AM springs but that you do the rear end first as this will make a bigger difference. Certainly Big Stripey's suggestion regarding feeding in the brakes will help too.

I'd be interested to know how you get on with it.

Jon

On my '05 I have just changed the front springs to the hagon progressive springs. I was going to up the oil to 15w as suggested by others on this site as well but couldn't find any; so I kept with the stock 10w. I have noticed a marked improvement on fork dive and handling generally and would highly recommend it as a mod. However if you are a wee bit on the short side it does raise the ride hight up a bit so dropping the forks through the yolks might be required to put feet to ground.. Hope this helps. Good luck
