Picked my bike up yesterday following 6k service. Dealer informed me they'd re-mapped to the latest tune, ie, 2004-01. The previous one being 18. As you can see, not only is this a new tune but Triumph have adopted a new numbering system.
So far it seems ok and has improved the "lumpiness" at low revs, but I've yet to try it out over long distances and the full range of various riding conditions

Chris,
Tune 19 is the one that some of us have been discussing of late. It seems that some have found some lumpiness or vibration after downloading? I have tune 19 in my bike and it is fine? and it certainly did have a positive effect on the performance
We'll see how it goes i guess, but i'm happy for now.

Stripey - Thanks for that. Obviously there is some confusion here. It would be interesting to know what other dealers are quoting as the latest tune. Maybe other members could report back on what their dealers say
955er - I have the off road can fitted and have "assumed" the dealer has put in a suitable tune to match it. (they fitted the off road can a few weeks before)

Hi Chris,
Have you notice any loss of smoothness at low revs with the off-road cans ?
There is a noticeable kicking at arround 2500rpm which makes traffic filtering very tiring.
Thanks
Nondas

955er,
Tune 19 is the latest tune to download. Adjustments are then made to C.O. levels etc to accomodate the offroad can. When opting for the offroad can (No contest in my opinion ) There will be small change in the way the engine breathes.
I found that it could be a bit 'snatchy' at low revs in traffic etc, but i adjusted my ride accordingly. Maybe running in one gear lower than i normally would at those revs.
The flip side of the coin is that when i opened up the throttle, the higher gears (Particularly 4th) become much taller and the power delivery from mid-range to the top end of the revs, is smoth and huuuge!
I know which i prefer.......But it is a matter of personal choice i guess?

955er - I know exactly the problem you mention and it is very annoying, almost to the point of spoiling any ride!. I can assure you it has nothing to do with the off road can. My bike did exactly this both before and after the new exhaust was fitted.
I also noticed that no matter how gentle with the twist-grip the power can sometimes cut-in quite abruptly after being shut-off ? Holding it at a constant 30mph in 3rd, or 40mph in 4th and the engine noticably "kicks" as you call it in the 2500rpm to 3000rpm range.
I've had the throttle bodies balanced and recently this new "2004-01" (or maybe 19?) tune installed and I'm now keeping a keen eye on things. I'll know better after a couple of good outings planned for this weekend and I'll report back on this thread on monday.
I would definately agree with Stripey that engine power is very, very smooth when accelerating, and I find 1st gear higher since having the can fitted.

I've also had the latest tune downloaded and the C O levels adjusted for the off road can, Like Jim says 4th gear is longer, but the biggest difference I find with tango is 3rd gear, I've got to be really careful powering out of corners the rear wheel spins up real easy now.
After being on the back of Stripey (the bike not the man) :-D I noticed how much longer 1st gear was with the 19th symphony, and that is the case with tango.
Before I had symphony #19 downloaded town riding was a real pain, too snatchy, but since the download everything is nice and smooth no matter what gear I'm in.
I also use clutchless gear changes, which I find make for a much smoother change.
One other thing I've found with all the changes I've done, is that my fuel consumption has gone up, a result of it running slightly richer, but then again I do ride it hard, but a definite increase.

Thanks for the replies folks.
I actually need to check first which tune is installed in the ECU.
The bike is a month old (2004 model) so I guessed it should have the latest version. But again . . . . you never know with Triumph ! ! !

Well, didn't get in the miles as planned this weekend due to really ****ty weather. From what I can tell the engine still "kicks" in the 2500/3000rpm range. Generally rides better with this latest tune, but I begin to wonder how much is in my head! As Stripey says, eventually you just adjust your riding to avoid the problems.
955er - if your bike is a 2004 with black frame its quite possible it was manufactured in 2003. Check the date stamp on a few of the components under the seat. Either way its likely to have tune18. I was led to beleive by my dealer that the very latest tune has only just been released by Triumph.
