The connectors on the hoses of my evaporative loss system have cracked. Bits and pieces of the system became disconnected. I've removed much of the plumbing, including the Honda charcoal canister.

From the drawings of the different systems on BikeBandit.com it seemed that I needed to block off the connections to and from the evaporative loss system. What I didn't realize is that there is an electric purge valve in the system.

Does anyone know if you just unplug the purge valve and let the connector dangle or is there a plug to go on it in the event it's controlled by the ECU.

TIA

That connector was just tucked away on my '98 Speed Triple (same 885i motor as your Tiger). My manual indicates it is controlled by the ECU on models so equipped. May set a code but that would be easy enough to find out. Just try it. Might an ECU map for a non-California model prevent the trouble code?

Thanks for that information. I got back under the tank today and now some of the rubber fittings on the remaining parts of the system have cracked as well. Guess I'll just have to replace all the tubing.

There are two *vent* hoses from the fuel tank. I've guessed that one clears water and the other drained fuel back into the recovery system. Although fuel and water could go down either exit.

Question is does the recovery system vent on a non-cali bike go into the atmosphere or connect to the throttle bodies?

TIA

With some research I found that both tubes vent into the atmosphere. So I've left the purge valve connected to the loom for the time being purging air when every it feels a need.

In replacing the tubing from the throttle bodies to the idle stepper motor I realized that the OE corrugated tubing bends better than the fuel hose I replaced it with. All the OE tubing was fine, it was the connection between the tubing and the throttle bodies that broke. Those fittings are used through out the Evap system and cracked at various junctions. I don't know at this point of those fittings are available over the counter.

Thanks for the assistance.

After removing the Evap system my bike ran well till Friday. About half way in the Engine Management Light came on and the engine started misfiring. I was able to limp to work.

At the end of the day it started right up and again, about half way home the engine started misfiring. The Engine Management Light has continued to stay on which makes sense.

I'm ruling out the plugs and thinking it must be one of the sensors for the ECM. The symptoms are similar to my TBS when the Ignition Sensor failed. My guess is on the Tiger its counterpart is the Crankshaft Position Sensor.

I found references to some temperature sensor and stepper motor issues that make the ECM deduce the engine is cold so it enriches the air/fuel mix.

It seems all these issues are detectable with the EFI Diagnostics Tool that an Official Triumph Mechanic has, but I don't. I'm considering the Tune-Boy and am wondering if anyone knows if the error codes are *codes* that you need a key to decipher or *messages* that tell you what’s malfunctioning?

The error codes are described in the service manual.

Thanks for that, I'll have to get an official service manual on the way. Tune-Boy ordered and in transit.
