Thought I'd follow-up my previous posts regarding available power output discussion.

I contacted Triumph U.K. and spoke with the Chris in Tech support.

My question was related to my interpretation of the usable power from the 40a alternator on the my '05 Tiger and '01 Trophy; both having 40A alternators but 30A system fuses.

Chris confirmed that, yes, the 30A fuse is the limiting factor.

So, the maximum, usable current draw from the system and within the Triumph specifications is ~30A or 360 Watts of power.

I also asked Chris about wire wheels for the '05 Tiger. I've created a separate post on this.

Hi,

I wonder if the 40A can be accessed by the use of aftermarket fuse accessories connected directly to the battery.

for example,
fog lights
heated seats
heater grips.
gps power

my thoughts...and correct me if I'm wrong is that the fuses are between the battery and the accessories, so that if more current than expected is drawn from the wiring loom, then the fuses do their job and localise the break.

The 40A alternator is not a waste if you access the difference in aftermarket accessories with their own fuses, straight off the battery.

your thoughts ?
