Hi,

I am considering a new 06 tiger. I have ridden it and find it a lot of fun. However, one thing has kept me from buying it so far. It is a big bike. When I sit on the bike I can touch my feet on both sides but I am on the balls of my feet not flatfooted. The Dealer tells me that the seat is in the 'middle' position and can go down one more notch. If that doesn't do it the rear suspension can be adjusted a little.

Does anyone have experience with this? Am I going to be able to lower the bike enough to sit flat-footed without altering the way the bike rides? Any help or suggestions would be great. I like the bike and would love to have one, but I hate to end up with a bike that I am afraid of dropping every time I come to a stop light.

Thanks in advance.

First of all dispense with the idea that you will drop the bike every time you stop, you won't. In my experience you will drop , sorry lower to the ground the bike when you were stationary to begin with. I think it's fair to say that everyone has dropped thier bike at some time or other,. usually when they have been stood still. Yo don't read on these pages of riders who have dropped their bikes at speed.
The seat will drop down by .5 cm on the adjuster and by the time you have a few miles under your belt the seat will have compressed under your weight and hey presto, both feet are on the floor. The Tiger is a bit of a shock at first not only because your feet don't appear to reach the deck but also because you are sat up much higher, the two experiences certainly give you second thoughts.
When I first rode tested a Tiger I very nearly turned round after a mile and took it back, I thought it was pants.

Last week I took my tiger in for service and I was loaned a brand new Sprint St, great I thought. I soon took that back at the first opportunity, it seemed I was overshadowed by the smallest cars, unseen by lorries and buses, riding along with my chin on the floor, bloody awful riding position after the Tiger.

Go on you now it makes sense, GET THE TIGER!!!

Getting it down at APEX?

If both feet are touching the ground on the balls, you'll be fine... I just shift to one side and plant a full foot on the ground... Haven't dropped mine yet in 26k miles... It's a great bike for Colorado Springs...

Don't worry, you really will not drop it, sure it's a big bike but you soon get used to it. As you can get both feet touching while sat on it you do better than many who can only get one down. Get the Tiger and I promise you won't be disappointed. Good luck. :-D

I'll vouch for these fellas. My inseam is 30" and it is a stretch for me at times. I am conscious of my position at every stop; however, I have learned to anticipate my footing.
We all agree that there is no one perfect bike. The Tiger is not for the faint-hearted.
After you spend some time with the Tiger you will have no doubts.

Thank you all very much for your responses.

Sounds like the right choice is the Tiger. :-)

I did look at some of the other forums you suggested (sorry I should have done that first) and they were also very helpful.

Since I am 5'9" I may have to make some minor adjustments to make it fit me well, but it sounds like there are many different options to do just that.

Again thank you all very much for your time and input.....now off to the bike shop :-)

Oh yes you will, but it won't hurt it (or you if you're more sensible than me)......

But I thoroughly concur with this. What are a couple of minor scratches and a red face compared with that wonderful Tiger feeling?

I just got my caspian blue Tiger 06 and got 50miles on the it. I thought it was a little tall for me as well, so I went to Wallmart and bought a set of Brahma boots that are oil resistant soles (no slip at stop lights etc.) also the soles are 1.5" thick (approx. 3.5cms), which trully translates to me 1.5" closer to the ground. I feel a lot better ridding with them. I had lowered the forks a full 1.5" and I was ok but leaning forward a little too much for me. I raised the the forks after I Bought the boots and I'm ok with it, so if you like try a $33.00 set of boots before you sink in $400+ for a rear Hagon shock. I'm 31' inseam and I seem to be ok with it now. Lowering the front forks and the seat to the last notch is the only easy thing you can do to bring this bike down. It worked for me so far. A local dealer told me that if I put a Hagon in the rear the warranty mey be voided on the bike? I will have to research that a little further. Good luck.
