Hello all
New member with a 2000my Tiger 900i. I have just noticed an oil leak (well weeping really) from a pipe.
See photo

http://www.triumphrat.net/modules.ph...view_photo.php

It is the pipe that does a 90 degree bend (just above the gear level) up wards to wards the tank (by the silver bracket).
I have looked on the Haynes manual at it is not motioned?
I think it is a breather pipe. The oil is collecting by the bracket about half way up. As I am no expert on Tigers I do not want to start pulling bits off until I have some advice.
Has anyone had this problem, is there a fix, or do I have to order a new pipe if so what is it called (part No etc)
Thanks in advance.

That does seem to be the breather you've described. The problem is unlikely to be with the pipe itself - it's just a bit of tubing, but I did have a problem with the breather valve coming loose a while back - it could be this. Apparently quite easy & cheap to fix, but my dealer sorted it for me while it was in for a service.

Have you by any chance over filled your bike with oil ?, the reason i say this is because if you have, then it gathers in the bottom of the airbox and seeps down through the breathers making it look like an engine leak or a breather pipe. Al the oil gathered in exactly the same place as you describe.

It doesn't need to be over filled by much for this to happen. I found out the hard way by stripping down most of the pipes and valve cover etc.

Just a thought......

Oil level is spot on. I have checked under the tank and no sign of oil coming from there. The engine is clean so I think it is not spraying from somewhere else. I took the bike for a run this afternoon 7 miles, and the oil was weaping quite badly?

I have bought a Tiger microfiche and it is the breather pipe just by the bracket which holds it in place. Could it possibly be there is a slight split on the pipe by this bracket and there is an air/oil vapour escaping from here.

I hope one of you have some ideas, as I do not want to spend a fortune taking it to a Triumph dealer. Phoned them today no help at all, they said they would have to stip the top off the bike to investigate (and he would not suggest any likely faults that would cause this).

Thanks for the answers

Cheers

Have you checked the oil level correctly??

Bike must be off all stands on the level, Don't want to teach you to suck eggs but lots of people have been caught out like this and thought that there oil level is spot on when infact they are miles over the top. :hammer:

Yes on mine if the level is correct and the bike on the prop stand it shows nothing at all. Gave me quite a shock when I saw it.......
