I've got a Wilbers rear shock coming that will be 1.5 inches lower and my local Triumph dealers said they will mount it and adjust the front forks so the height and steering geometry are where they need to be so my 2005 Tiger rides and handles the way it should. My question is this: I know I need to shorten the side stand and am wondering if anyone has done this and where did you cut and re-weld or did you find another shorter stand from another model that works? I'll try the center stand the way it is before modifying it but the side stand will need to fixed right away. Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Mine was cut just above the base plate and that little tab bit and a bit taken out then the flat bit welded back on. It actually took two attempts before I was happy with the height though. Model enamel paint makes a good job of covering the weld up. Not really noticeable without a proper look that anything has been done.

Is It just the side stand that needs attention here, or does the mainstand need shortening too?.....

the side stand definitely needs to be shortened or the bike will fall over. The center stand can be left alone but it will be tougher to pull it up. I'm going to see how much tougher and may just roll the back tire up on a 2x4 and then put the center stand up. I figure it should work as I only use the center stand to oil the chain or clean the rear tire.
