This '05 Tiger is my first bike in a long time that has a chain and I'm wondering what you long-time Tiger guys use to lube the chain? I see the manual says "Mobil Chain Spray or Mobilube HD80". The guy at my local Triumph dealer gave me a can of "Maxima Chain Wax" that is supposed to be O-Ring Chain safe. A buddy said he'd never use the wax as it doesn't stick to the chain and the O-Rings dry out. Any suggestions will be much appreciated, thanks.

Get an automatic chain oiler. It takes all the hassle out of chain maintenance.

My original chain went 23,000 miles with regular lubing. My second chain is doing about the same with no lube at all. I couldn't figure out why I was wasting all that lube that won't get past the o-ring anyway so I decided to try none. I guess if I lived someplace wet it might make a difference. I see you live in Phoenix which is about as arid as Albuquerque. I keep wanting to spray something on it; feel like a bad parent or something but I'm going to stay strong and not lube this chain.

I use normal engine oil in my Pro-oiler. Fantastic bit of kit it is too.

I use PJ1, Blue Label. Frankly, I'd use anything my local shop happens to carry since they are pretty selective. Also, if you are doing much offroad/dirt road riding, you may need something different.

I treat the chain about every other fillup, or if it gets wet. The PJ1 doesn't sling (not much anyway). Thats important to me since I don't have a chain guard on the Tiger.

Definitely go with a Scotoiler, Iv not had to check my chain for about 500 miles and I find you get a better life out of it if you leave it slacker than Triumph recommend, I have about 45 mil of slack and find this just right.

Scottoiler is the way to go.
Or if you wish to use chain spray then I would recommend Wurth drylube.

Check this out...great stuff for your chain, especially if you like to keep the dirt off it and all clean.
