Well, I tried the PJ1 Blue label and it works great! My chain
is much quieter with it. My shop man suggested chain wax
but that does not appear to get many raves around here!
When I find Royal Purple in the DFW area I'm going to try
that next.

Best chain lube: none. That's what the o-rings are for. Don't even start with the nonsense about lubing the o-rings or the contact area between the chain and sprocket. Been there. Wasted gallons of lube. I'm all done with that. I still use chain lube... on my clutch and throttle cables.

I use any SAE80 gearbox oil on my 05' Tiger's chain.

I had to tension chain a bit at 25.000km.

My dealer says, even if i do not lubricate it at all it will last about 35.000km

He's probably right, but i feel better with a clean chain!

On a bmw 650 i had, both chains (o-ring DID) lasted exactly 25000km. The first one had no lubrication at all, while the second had a weekly treat....

go figure.... :???:

Scottoiler works damned fine for me. We have a fairly extreme mix of wet, dry, hot, cold conditions here (when there's not a drought) . The oiler keeps the chain quiet and the sprockets wet (and probably cures arthritis too) and saves me having to remember to lube the chain (not a small thing as I get more feeble minded). Before I had that I used Fuchs aerosol chain lube or the Shell aerosol product both of which stuck fairly well.

I've used Maxima Chainwax for many years on my TBS and Tiger. Then I did a free can of PJ's (I think, it was white) and now am using Motorex 622 STRONG. I tried some RK oil on the TBS but what a mess.

IMHO your local environment will dictate which lube, if any, is best. For Hawaii once the OE coating is lost from a new chain it will develop rust on the pins and side plates causing the o-rings to wear and break. In short order the chain pins bind with the side plates. Coating the chain often keeps the rust at bay and extends the chains useful life.

The fling from the Chainwax and PJ's was minimal compared to the Motorex. I might be using too much Motorex or our regular 80 F temperatures keeps the lube too viscous as it flings more than the other spray lubes I've used. Just remember that a can of lube is cheaper than a chain and/or sprockets.

Application at 250 mile intervals (one week for me) proves helpful as well. This is where the chain oiler systems would be a benefit. Someday the Tiger may be fitted but I just can't justify it for the TBS. Silly me.

I have yet to use anything other than WD40 and now chain lube to clean my chain. I've found that the carrier for the lube will dissolve the old lube which I wipe off onto a shop rag. Once the road accumulations are reduced I spray on a fresh coating of chain lube. Of course this procedure is carried out just after a good ride so the chain is nice and warm (hot).

i clean my chain with the Motorex 611...then i use Silkolene Pro-Chain synthetic lube...ive used this system on quite a few bikes for just as long in time...seems to work out great.
