Smile Remove tank

Hi there,

I have a 2003 995i tiger, spoke wheels with Vin number SMTTG730WT3184096.

I have an air lock in my coolant system so I need to remove the tank and bleed the air out.

Can you tell me are there supposed to hoses attached at (1) and how do I remove these (2) without fuel leaking everywhere? I got a how to from Tiger Tripple and it said the tubes were self sealing and that fuel wouldnt come out, but when I removed them I got covered in fuel!!!!!

Please can anyone help?

Many thanks

Matt.

Hi Mate,

Your number 1's are both breather hoses that lead down under the bike. Your number 2's are the fuel supply and return. They are both supposed to be self sealing.

If they aren't sealing you will have to syphon your fuel out before removal. That will also make the tank nice and light to lift

Top Tip: Number each fuel line and all connectors so that there is no confusion when putting it all back together You could also make your own breather hoses.....Simples !!

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Edit: Just remembered you don't need to take the tank all the way off to bleed the water system. Just raise it high enough to be able to get your hand in to get the rad cap off. I usually just zip tie my tank front lugs to the left handlebar and do it like that. It saves having to disconnect anything at all

Do a search on here and you`ll find out that the rad caps are crap, so its better to replace it !! its probably the cap thats causin your problems !! just remembered somethin else, the plastic elbows that go into the expantion tank are prone to crack so the coolant system draws air instead of water, so its worth checkin them !! replace with brass or st/steel elbows !!

there should be two small hoses attached to the pips in 1
one is the tank vent line that should have a roll over valve (black cylinder3/4" dia by 3 "long) a few inches down
the 2nd has just a pipe and is the fuel cap drain

the fuel tank has self seal connections, your bike has had the recall and has the alley non seal pipe ends fitted.
if you remove one pipe then the tank will empty you need to remove both fittings so the tank can seal and then you are only left with whats in the pipe to fall on the floor.

I'm quite certain my hoses have no "rollover valve." What is this thingy?

I've had my tank off numerous times and can't say I've ever noticed the valve before. I'll be looking for it next time.

There's no valve on mine ('02 955i) either Stephen. I checked the Triumph parts catalogue and it did say the valve was only on US, CA or TW models (so I'm not panicking at the moment)

Paul G.

BTW, in the original picture the red connector is shown at the bottom with the white one at the top. I'm pretty sure that on my bike the red (return) connector is at the top with the white (intake) connector at the bottom.

Guys.

First off, if you have gas pouring from the fuel lines when you disconnect them, you need the Team Triumph fuel connectors fix.

The original Triumph parts were plastic and prone to failure. Triumph replaced the male ends with metal ones that ARE NOT VALVED. The female plastic ends were never recalled. The female ones are prone to failure (mine broke on the road, and so did another Tiger owner pal of mine). They are simply too weak. Order up that Team Triumph kit and your life will be SO MUCH easier! They're all metal and everything is valved.

Before I replaced mine I just dealt with a little fuel spillage.

Also, Mattys, bleeding the coolant is a PIA. I took my tank off and put it on a shelf right next to the bike so I could run the bike with the tank off. Doing it with the tank on can be done but there's not a lot of room to move around. The bleed screw (right next to the radiator cap on my '02) I simply BARELY threaded and when coolant begins to ooze out you know to tighten it down. It gets way too hot to be able to fiddle around with threading a screw like that.

Good luck!
