If you are in the USA, one can do their own maintenance AND use parts other than the ones the manufacturer puts his name on without affecting the warranty. I recommend keeping receipts for your parts purchases.
The amount of oil to fill with filter change: 3.2 liters...the full mark is the mark touching the top of the cross-hatch lines, and not the mold mark about 1/4" above the full mark. A simple way to check oil is to pull the dip-stick while the bike is on the side-stand, clean the dip-stick and replace it--screw it all the way in. From one side or the other, pull the bike to vertical and hold it for a few seconds in the vertical position. Lower it onto the side stand and remove the dip-stick and read the oil level. I have never gotten a different reading whether the bike is hot or cold, but the instructions are to check it with the engine hot and after it has set a few minutes to let the oil drain back to the sump.
Filters: Look at the cross-reference info on
www.calsci.com
There are many places to purchase filters--even Walmart has them in the USA.
Oil specs listed by the manufacturer: "Semi or fully synthetic 10W40 or 15W50 motorcycle oil which meets specification API SH (or higher)
and meets JASO MA, such as Mobile 1 Racing 4T".
Torque values: Sump plug: 25 Nm (Do not over-tighten--a few have cracked the sump).
Oil Filter: 10 Nm If you do not have a torque wrench, hand tighten about like one does on an auto.
Fill the oil filter prior to installing--this takes a few times topping it off to get it full.....
