I filled up my Tiger 955i 04 plate the gauge only showed 3/4 full but the tank was brimmed.

I took the tank off and removed the bottom plate and took out the fuel mechanism.

It consists of a long tube with a cap on the end, I removed the cap.
The inside of the tube has a long thin curcuit board with a float that shoud move freely up and down as the fuel level changes.

The float on my bike had got wedged 3/4 of the way up the curcuit board.

All it needed was a slight tap to the float and it became free, this fixed the fuel gauge problem. It also happened on a friends tiger, I think pulling the odd wheelie can cause this to happen!

If the sensor was the early type (ie the float is a white spongy material) this happens a lot. The later one with a dark grey smooth float cures all.....

And getting the old ones "un-stuck" is temporary. it will get stuck again later. You can replace the float in some cases, or replace the sending unit with a new one or eBay one from a 2006.

My 2006 is starting to show full and then dropping to empty w/ the fuel light coming on and then back to full or the correct reading. What's with that?

It seems like I've seen someone complain of that before. The float slides up and down a circuit board. It's possible the contacts are corroded or fouled up somehow but that's just a guess.

There aren't any contacts - the float has a magnet in it which actuates a series of reed switches varying the output resistance.

Yeah I remembered that later.

I actually think that float is bobbing with fuel movement in the tank, then getting stuck now and then. But I thought the 2006's had the updated float in them.

Have you checked your electrics? Often electrics problems show up first as weird unexplainables. My recent issues with the output from reg/rectifier were relatively sudden and heated. The meltdown at Madame Toussauds... and so I have 10 gauge wire from R/R to battery now, but I digress. Check fuses and wiring for issues.
