Sounds like a jack to me--I bought a Sears jack and used it once on my Bonneville. The jacks are too unstable for me to work on a bike while on the jack.
I bought a bike lift that you roll the bike onto and it raises the bike about 35" in the air--the bike is still sitting on its tires. There are lifts with removable rear sections for removing wheels. Harbor Freight sells a couple of lifts--one foot operated and the other air operated. Mine is air operated. I bought the Pro Cycle lift from Derek Weaver in Fort Worth, Texas. http://www.derekweaver.com
