When the bike was running last the fuel pump was EXTREMELY loud, it may be because it's directly under my seat and it only had a 1/4 tank of (8 year old) gas in it...

But is it normally so loud? I just installed the new fuel filter, fittings, and am about to drop the tank back onto the bike and fill her up but didn't know if I should run a little Lucas additive, or STP fuel injector cleaner in the gas as well.

My father suggested running a little bit of 2 stroke oil in with the gas just to have a little lubrication on parts that have been sitting out for a couple weeks.

Any suggestions? Or just a normal whine?

Mine has done it from the day i bought it 8 years ago.

Ok perfect!

I'll just throw a little Lucas/STP in the gas to clean out the internals of the fuel system and get all that bad gas out of there... If the whine remains, so be it... As long as it runs and rides, I have no issue as far as noise is concerned.

I was quite relieved to read your posting, Danny.... as my bike ( 07 all black Bonne) makes the craziest noise if the air is cold. Originally, I thought that it was to do with the front brakes as it seemed to come from that direction- and that the whole bike was about to fall to bits. My husband assures me that it is something to do with pressures/ vacuums and fuel. I REMAIN UNCONVINCED! The thing is, the noise, which is like a high pitched scream - with remarkable "tremolo" feature- seems to "slow down" as I approach lights and slow/ apply brakes. It is so loud that any pedestrians nearby do a double take and stare at the engine of the bike. It stops as suddenly as it starts. It especially happens when the air temperature is low/ freezing.....OR IN THE DARK???? ( What' THAT all about??) So far, nothing has dropped off. Long may it continue...BUT, in the meantime, I'd still like to know , for certain, what it is. Anyone got any other ideas??? PS- in the UK, where is the best tyre place for a good deal and good despatch? Anyone got pearls of wisdom about tyres that remain steadfastly in touch with the road, especially in the wet... as it never seems to stop raining here and I am fed up with my current back wheel sliding out on wet roundabouts.

Apparently this was a common gremlin with early girlies. Mine had it when I bought her new in 2002. It would begin as soon as the cold engine was started and would stop after a while when the engine heated up. It would also start once I went up above 2000 m (6100 ft), though I never found out if it was due to the chill in the mountains or the lower air pressure.
The fuel pump was replaced under warranty by the dealership and the next seven years and 200000 km it never appeared again.
The dealer told me at the time that he had replaced a number of pumps already, all with that "whining" problem.

) THANK you for yout timely replies and great bits of info. I have a master plan. By using this website I should be able to ensure that the normal, random mess that comes from my mouth, regarding all things motorbike-esque, will sound at least plausible!..

so far , so good. I might just drop the "probably need the fuel pump replacing" comment, over breakfast. As for the tyre link, it will be soooo cool to be able to say, "Tyres, yeah, already on it. Scottish KuzzinKenny gave me a good link!" HA! CAN'T WAIT. Oh well, back to the housework!

Ok, KuzzinKenny.... Have checked out the link and, indeed, the prices are good... and I like the way you can match your bike up and they tell you what tyres you SHOULD have. My question is..."Bridgestone" tyres.... ARE THEY SOLID IN THE WET??? Does anyone have an alternative idea..... I suppose I could just go to "Ask Jeeves"... but I'm not sure he rides. ....

as yer bikes an 07 Bonnie isn`t it still under warrenty ?? i`d go see the dealer about the wierd noises and let them sort it out for free !! its good to have you down here in the Tigger Den but i think you`d be better checkin out the Twins forum and ask what they`re usin tyre wise !!

My Tiger will make a similar noise after turning on the ignition in very cold temperatures, or when sitting for long periods of time.
