Smile Replacement Cush Drive???

I have a 2003 Tiger 955i. Lovely old girl, with 24,000 miles on the clock.

I have just had the MOT and it failed as there is a small crack in the rear disc. OK so i order a new disc, new pads, while i am at it - the chain and sprockets will need to be replaced at the end of the season, so i will replace these as well.........but the burning question is this.

Should i replace the Cush Drive?????? i can get one from Triumph for around £55.00, but will it give me anything back?? I have no play or issues with the current rubbers, but also dont want to be messing about changing something that does not need changing... hmmmmmm

what are your thoughts fellow Tigererians????

Leave it alone!

As for sprockets, did you order OEM Triumph parts? If so, I hope you were sitting down when they told you the price! I nearly spat my mouthfull of free coffee out across the parts department counter when my local dealer told me the price for the OEM gearbox sprocket.

Ok decission made - i will leave it alone....... as for the parts - i have a very friendly man in the local dealer parts department who helps me out, although this was still too much!!! not quite coffee spitting too much, but def. still too much.

Have ordered parts from (name to be inserted when head works) same spec and quality, just without Triumph tattoo's to it!

Nice work chaps

I suppose you did the right thing; I had a close look at mine after my old '02 girlie had over 200000 km (120000 miles) on the clock last winter and it was still in excellent nick.

i dont even want to look - like above said, just leave well alone.. i might just do the rear disc and pads, leave teh chain and sprokets until the end of the season and replace chain sprokets and look at the cush drive then... that way i have all of the winter to clean up teh rear end, the wheel and replace if i need too... BETTER me thinks than trying to rush the whole job on a sunny sunday afternoon....

Does anybody know - apart from triumph main dealer, where i can get a replacement CUSH drive from??? there is one on the UK fleebay for £10.00 but the seller has no idea what age or mileage the original bike was before he broke it for spares.

Stop right now, the cush drive is fine! It will be fine until the rest of the bike is a rusted hulk in some breaker's yard. What you need to check - especially because where you live actually has wet roads - are the wheel bearings. There are three in the back and two in the front. If you have things apart, spin the bearings with your fingers and feel for roughness. If there's any, replace them. Not with Triumph parts, but with good-quality generic bearings. Say again, "The cush drive is fine!"
As for sunny afternoons....It was 44C in Tucson yesterday!

It would appear, for whatever reason that you intend to replace a cush drive thats perfectly servicable

Smile

Ok rear wheel off, new disc and pads put on, checked bearings, all fine - checked for play on the cush drive............not even a wobble of play in it!! rekon those rubbers are made from bloody good stuff...

did not change the front or rear sprocket or chain.... rear sproket and chain will see me to the end of the season, and the front is still the original and shows signs of wear.

One thing i have noticed is how filthy the rear gets, and a little rust getting into the bolts etc. So will strip the whole rear end away at the end of the season and clean, polish and protect - may even swap out the original spring for something else - ANY THOUGHTS??
