Has anyone replaced their dashlight bulbs with LEDs in an attempt to get them to be easier to see in daylight (especially the neutral light)? If so, did it help?

This site:

LED bulbs

Seems to sell LED bulbs of all varieties. Any ideas of which one I would need? That way I won't have to pull the dash apart just to see what to order.

Thanks,
Fred

Whoa-

Thanks for the link. That is a little over the top taking a 3.5v to 4v LED and adding a resistor and a diode. It would work but for $1.19 each I will probably jsut go for 12 volt LEDs. The pictures do show what bulb to use (I think it is a #74 abot 2/3s the way down the link I put in my original post).

Have you done what the post sugests? How did it work?

I am not a member of that forum. I am afraid to join because then I would spend even more time reading forums instead of riding my bike  .

If my approach works, it will be a lot easier than this and somebody should post a reply to that thread. I am going to buy a few of the LEDs and give it a go.

Cheers,
Fred

Fred,

Have you ordered the #74 LED bulbs yet? Does the Tiger take the small wedge base? I would like to get these bulbs but want to make sure these are the right ones. I do not have the time to do the 1-2 hour fix as posted on Triumph-Tiger.com. Thanks,

Norm

The bulbs came in today and I was just about to post. They went in like a dream, definately the right bulbs. It is rainy here today so it is hard to tell how they will do in full sun but they are definately brighter than the stock bulbs. I got them in white and am just letting the colored dash filter the light. I only replaced the neutral, directional, and high beam indicators. The others are plenty bright and really don't want them any brighter. The whole fix took 15 minutes from start to finish but I am pretty used to taking the faring off (always seems harder to get it back on than it should for some reason or other). The only trick is that LEDs actually care which is positive and which is ground but they don't get hurt by reverse wiring them so if they don't work the first time you plug them in then turn the bulb around.

IMHO this is a much more efficient (and probably cheaper at about $1.19 per bulb) approach than the one on the other board. Just plug the bulbs in and away they go.

On another note, I bought a four-inch round truck LED tail light assembly to attach to my rear fender extender which I think looks a little lame unadorned. This thing is wicked bright. I will email a cell phone pic to BigStripey so he can post it in the miscellaneous section of the album.

Fred,

I assume you used the #74 - small wedge base then. Thanks for the update. I will order mine too.

Norm-

Sorry for not being specific. yes, the #74 bulbs are the ones. The SuperbrightLEDs web site was reliable in that they just dropped everything in priority mail which I find to be faster generally than UPS ground.

Fred,

Thanks for the clarification. I ordered mine and I'm sure they will help on my 4500 mile trip this June to New Mexico.

Thanks for posting up. I'm not enough of an electronics tinkerer to go through the other mod so just accepted the current lights. I'll try to find these locally, otherwise will order some up.

Have you looked at the lights for tach and speedo?
