Tiger Fuel Gauge
My Tiger has consistently used 5 litres per 100 ks and I generally fill up after each run, on the odd occasion I have done 260 to 270 and found the gauge has dropped to a fraction above the red, when I have filled up again it has taken 14 litres about right, theoretically I should have going on 200ks still in the tank but the gauge suggests otherwise, anyone out there had the same prob or is it just a Tiger quirk, it gives you a bit of a fright when it first happens.

The fuel guage is pretty accurate and linear. However, yes it does go for the shock tactic when the fuel is getting low.
My low fuel light doesn't come on until the needle is right down in the small red segment. I would then estimate I've got about 5 or 6 litres left, which is about 50 miles if I'm careful.
If I'm not to heavy handed, I'd get about 250 miles per tank when touring.

I've just ran out of petrol for the second time on my 2006 tiger '955, and I was p!ssed off to say the least
I've always relied on the trip miles rather than the fuel gauge or light.
This time I ran out on 196 miles on the trip, and when I filled up I got 23.15 litres in what is supposed to be a 24 litre tank.
When I checked the sums I'd got 40 miles / gallon. Last month round Europe I was consistantly getting over 50 miles / Gallon. Is there something different about British fuel that gives lower MPG ?
Why didn't Triumph leave the tank at 25 litres as it was with the Tiger 900
Why didn't Triumph make the tank bigger as the bike is supposed to be an "Adventure" Sports bike
These questions we will never know the answer to

Tiger Fuel Gauge
Thanks Pickaxe your 250 miles equates to around 400ks but with a 24 litre tank we should be getting about 470ks that is if you use 5 litres per 100ks like I do,even when I open the Taps the fuel consumption does not change noticeably so when I put the 14 litres in it meant I still had 10 litres left, The gauge was close on the red which suggests I was a lot lower than I actually was,I will have to run the bike till the low fuel light shows and then check,the hand book states that there are 6 litres left so another [100ks well ?] we will see.Tiger Fox

TigerFox, you pose an interesting question.
I've just intalled a TOR pipe, an O2 sensor bypass and the latest tune, and now the low fuel light comes on at about 260kms. Prior to that it used to come on at about 320kms. The gauge is still reading similarly to what it used to when the light comes on.
At this stage, I'm not sure whether I'm using that much more fuel after the changes, or whether the new tune has changed the way the fuel gauge is reading.
I still haven't got to the bottom of the mileage per gallon or KM/Ltr yet, but will be doing a bit of deciphering in the coming weeks.
Curious indeed!

Hi Mick yes the light coming on at 260 kms is hard to swallow I think the Tiger has a problem with the gauge as my 2005 tiger was the same, but was never resolved, n other-words never got around to it. I will endeavor to carry out a full test this time, that is of course if it will stop raining long enough to get out, I will post the result.

TF, thanks mate, and thanks for not mentioning the coach!
Did a long ride today, 240km and the consumption was much better, not sure how much yet, but it's better on the open road.
The ride was the final leg of Charlie Boorman's "By Any Means" trip into Sydney. I'll put a report up on the BHO.

I've yet to see an accurate fuel gauge on a motorcycle. With all of the sloshing around that goes on, it's easy to see why.
The gauge in a Tiger is a simple affair, it gets readings from a float stuck in a tube that runs inside of the right side of the tank. The tube fills with gas and the float falls as the gas runs out. I can't say for sure, but I don't think that a different tune would change the way it reads.
I'd do what was already said, figure out how many miles you can go on a tank and use your odometer.

Interesting. I have the exact opposite problem. On my '07 the fuel light comes on with a full gallon left in the tank. At right about 180 miles. I can easily put 200 on it and still have a a gallon left.
I wish it would come on a half a gallon.

Just be happy that thet all have a working guage of sorts, My 995i (2000) Dose 450 miles per week for the last 18 months  I have changed the sensors in the tank twice, resorting to removing the outer plastic tube to free the float. still the same old story 50 mpg. fuel needle bounces from half to full then down to a quater and back up again  .So i always run on the trip meter 220 miles fuel light comes on every time.
