Hey guys,
My bike was running horrible and had no power off the line. I literally had to hold the bike at 3500 rpm and slip the clutch to take off from a stop without stalling. Once home, I realized that blimping the throttle would cause a loud backfire through the intake and then stall. I tore into it, and disassembled the IAC valve and reassembled. Once running, the check engine light came on, but was running great. I then unhooked the battery for a few minutes and retried. It still ran well and the check engine light did not come back on. I'm assuming that the light was caused from the valve not indexing to the right location from the initial tear down, but I'm not sure. Also, I took the stepper motor of the valve apart (mostly for curiousity!) by cycling the key on and off. Of course once it fully extended the spring within shot the parts across the garage as it slipped out of my hand. If anyone has ever had one apart please tell me if this is the correct order.....from outside to inside. First the white plunger, then the metal sleeve with the rounded over end toward the plunger and then finally the spring. This seemed to be the only "logical" way for it to be reassembled, but I'm not British! LOL! (That's a joke about the Triumph, not the British guys on this site!!)
Any insight would be helpful. Also, it is now idling a little under 1000 rpm, it used to idle about 1250. Also, back before the stalling and backfiring, it would idle at 1800rpm sometimes until I put I little load on it by letting the clutch out momentarily, then it would drop back to 1250. Hence why I assumed all my troubles were with the AIC valve.
Sorry for the winded post!!
Jerry
