I've got a Triumph chain/sprocket set to put on my Tiger and I'm not sure how to spread the end of the pin after assembly. Is there a special tool or do I just put it on a hard flat surface and whack it with a hammer?
Thanks for any help. :hammer:

There is a special tool... The Dealer should have one you can buy... Just hammering it will not work...

I bought one on-line but for the life of me I can't find the receipt. They are not cheap.

FWIW,
My bike is in for the 18,000 mile service, along with the chain & sprockets. I was told that the Tiger uses an 'endless' chain with no removable link. Because of this, the swingarm must be removed for installation.
I'm pretty ignorant, so I'm going to go ahead and pay the $790 for the oil change and drivetrain freshening.
Have a nice day.
Brian

So there is not an option with a master link? I find that tough to believe.

I have read that the Triumph's come with an endless chain, but the one I ordered, which is a Triumph part, has the master link that has to be flattened or riveted.
I found a tool that, with a little grinding, can remove the old chain and smash the pin end correctly on the new chain. I found the economy version on the net for $50.
I have also read that the original sprockets would most likely NOT be wore out after 20,000 miles. So, I'm going to look closely at the sprockets and only replace if needed.

As soon as I got home today I looked into changing the sprockets and chain on my 05 Tiger. That $790 quote that brittour mentioned got me to thinking......
After removing the front sprocket cover (5 screws), it's all right there..... simple. I should be able to do the whole thing in an hour.
This is what it will cost:
Triumph chain and sprocket set $195
Chain tool $55
BTW.... the front sprocket does look worn with 20,000 miles
I'll post next week after I do the job and tell about all the stuff that went wrong.

It is always advisable to replace the chain and sprockets as a set... Wear on an old sprocket, unless excessive, will be hard to distinguish unless you have a new sprocket to compare it with... Using worn sprockets will shorten the life of a new chain..

The Triumph chain is a D.I.D. X-ring chain... I ordered a chain from an online company and then got the new sprockets from the local Triumph dealer... Can't remember the total cost, but I'm pretty sure it was less...

My Tiger came stock with a DID VM530 chain. I replaced it with a DID ZVM530 and new sprockets at 30,000 miles. Chain tool cost me ~$100 a couple of years back, this is the second time I've used it.
