I just installed a new tune on the Tiger using Tuneboy software. Better running and almost no surging now. Really pulls in 6th gear when needing to pass.

Also I was able to check all the error codes and reset them.

Just wish I had a Dyno in the garage to really tune the Tiger.

Anyone else using it??????

Yep,

I got tune boy now, and it works really well. I am happy with the tune in the bike at the moment, but i was able to clear a few errors and then tweak the rev limiter a bit. I am still looking at a number of possible tunes but i need to decide what i want the tune to do ?

Power v Smoothness i guess ?

I'll let you know which one i go for !

I have a tune that Wayne (the maker of tuneboy) created for my 02 Tiger with aftermarket exhaust. If you want a copy of it, I can e-mail it to you.

Does anyone other than Triumph do custom maps for the standard Triumph ECU??? would save a load of cash not having to buy a tune boy or power comander

TuneBoy is the only software that actually reprograms the ECU to a different Air/Fuel/Ignition map. Power commander and the like sit in front of the ECU and trick it into doing what they want by providing it with false information. The Triumph tool will only push premade tunes supplied by Triumph.

So if you want to actually tune your ECU, you need TuneBoy/TuneEdit.

It works on windows based computers and requires a serial port. I bought an old laptop and installed XP. Cost me about 300 bucks for the Laptop and Software. I also use it to suft the internet in my shop whaen working on projects.

If you have a laptop without a serial port, you can buy a USB to Serial converter that will let you use any PC/Lapto with a USB port. There is information about this and many other questions at this forum:

I reccomend using a laptop as you can leave it connected and do DYno runs on the open run while logging data in real time. Helps you to quickly build an Air fuel map.

I have been playing with various A/F maps with the newest Triumph aftermarket pipe tune and I have found some intersting things. For one thing (obvious) there is a trade off between power and fuel economy. You can get more power out of the engine if you are willing to accept 38-40 mpg versus the more standard 45mpg. Also, by taking the O2 sensor out of the equation, which is done by setting the A/F map locations to anything less than 14.5:1, you will get a much smoother idle and totally elminate any surging, jerkyness, etc. I can cruise at 2200 rpm with the throttle bearly open and it is crystal smooth. Hit the gas and it pulls to redline. I have 4 or 5 different maps and I can set it up for running around town, or for economy on long trips. They can be downloaded in a matter of minutes as the program is very easy to use.

I would suggest purchasing a book on Motorcyle fuel injection, because the support from Tuneboy is not that great, especially when you are trying to understand the fundamentals.

Thanks for the information Bronson33!

I'm curious. Does TuneBoy allow one to view the ECU, status registers? If so, are reference definitions, for the codes, provided somewhere?

Did you look at the "Power Commander" prior to purchasing TuneBoy?

If so, why did you choose TuneBoy?
