Looking at my front Anakee I noticed that the large and small lugs wear differently- the trailing edge on the smaller lug is scooped but the leading edge is even with the next larger lug which is even across its surface. Something like this is also happening with a friends R3 (different tire and tread but same brand). The dealer says this is normal and not to worry. I am also having front brake problems again as posted elsewhere here. It has 8K and I am hoping it will last another 3-4 anyway. Anyone had this experience or think this might be related or what...?

Brakes - I heard of "warped rotors" here on the forum???

Tires -
I had the same thing happen to my front Anakee. I got rid of them - as they felt unsafe on the wet and on irregular surfaces.

This 'Cupping' is common with all the 'block cut' tyres. I had it happen an all my sets of Tourances, and with the Michelin T66 's and no doubt it is the same on the Annakees.

It is caused by the weight transfer when you apply the front brake. Don't forget that the Tiger fuelled up and with a rider on board is pretty darned heavy and all that forward momentum puts enormous pressure on those blocks. But if you look at the wear it seems the opposite of 'drive wear' and is a puzzle at first.

Interesting to note is that since fitting the Bridgestone Battle Wings, because they are not so much block cut, i cannot see any any signs of cupping anywhere yet.

I used to end up with almost a rumble from the tyres and you could hear the road noise from the tyres in the end. a bit off putting at first, but as i said, it is always going to be an issue with this kind of tyre.

Noted that too!

I wonder how much of this wear pattern is influenced by the block separation distance as well?

I'm trying these - They do appear to be softer than the Anakee.

Thanks for the replies- always good to hear others' experiences and get an explanation. I was puzzled because previous cupping experience was the opposite of what I see happening on the Anakees. So I hope the front will last as long as the new rear and I can try something else more suited to my needs.
