I was wondering if anyone has every had to replace the Cam Chain or Tensioner on a 955.

My Tiger has covered 20,000 miles with no problems and I have no reason to be concerned at this stage. However I do remember bikes like the Honda CB750F1 where the cam followers went soft within 6,000 miles. Most jap bikes in those days needed chain tensioners and new cam chains on a regular basis.

I've read about the 955 engine exceeding 100,000 miles so I was just wondering if the Cam chain becomes an issue at some point.

45k at the last valve adjustment and inspection of the tentioner revealed no evidence of wear. Ditto on the Speed Triple at 36K.

I cannot recall a single thread on CCTs. I would have noticed because I used to have a Firestorm and the forum dealt with very little else. There was a wide variety of innovative solutions though, just glad my bike was OK.

The engine is a bit noisy, but they all do that. Mine has done 21k and sounds the same as it did when I bought it, with 4K.

Thanks Tyrebyter and Greenman. With quality oil a well engineered cam chain can last forever. Just see what Mercedes have been doing for years & years.

I could not find any posts so I thought I'd ask the question. One less thing to worry about.

Hi Guys,

The cam chain on my Daytona 900 snapped at just under 50k, with little wear on the tensioner. If Triumph haven't changed the design on the 955 I'd be very wary of just "forget about it" or "it never goes". I'll be changing mine at 40k, if I ever get out enough to reach that!

Don't want to scaremonger, just my 2p.

Graeme.
