Hello 6 days, 132 kilometers so far on a new Black 2006 Triumph Tiger. Questions, why doesn't the Tiger settle down in revs when in 6th gear for smooth cruising. I have so far seen at 120 kilometers/hour (70mph) the bike sitting around 5000 rpm? This to me is single cylinder numbers rev not triples. Being new to Triumph and never test riding it before I bought I thought I would get any form of feedback from you guys, thanks. Are you guys comfortable with this and or have you played with primary and secondary sprockets to compensate etc.
P.S Last bike was a 2003 Yamaha V-Star 1100 which had the same problem but being a 5 spd with shaft drive no options.

I put a 19/44 combo on mine. That drops the RPM about 600 at any given speed. Yet it makes 1st very long... I will ,ost likely got to 19/45 next...

My bike is smooth as butter at 5000 RPMs and much higher than that actually. I like the gearing on the bike, there is always torque when you need it and the motor doesn't seem to complain.

I do a lot of time at speeds over 65 mph and I changed out to t 19 tooth front to lower the rpm's a bit... Bike seems to like it... My goal was to save a little gas...

Thanks those are the numbers I was looking for. Any other thoughts let me know. I will play with primary first. I will most likely switch out sprockets for those long trips, and yes I agree bike has lots of torque and motor's legs are long. Note: I was comparing Tiger's cruising to the VStrom 1000
( I test drove) which I felt was too strange looking of a bike for me but it did settle down real nice at cruising speeds. I bought the Tiger because of it's tradional styling and strong reputation and as I just couldn't handle the star Wars look of the VStrom.

Let your bike break-in a little more. My '06 has 7,400miles on it, and at 5000rpm, it's doing almost 80mph.
I think you will adjust to the bike, yourself. A different front sprocket can change your rpm's a bit, but 5000rpm is really nothing, on this bike.

Just checked mine and it shows 4800 - 4900 at 70mph (UK rpm of course  ) so yours sounds about the same. Mine is of course a 2004 model.

do quite a bit of motorway miles getting to the south of France and the Midlands to see the parents and iv never really worried about the rpm, she mostly sits there at about 80 85 on standard sprockets and seems more than happy

I've had other bikes such as XJ900, BMW R100GS and they did 80mph at 5000 rpm.
The XJ red lined at 9000rpm. The BMW red lined at 7500rpm. The Tiger red lines at 9500rpm so the Triumph is reving about the same in comparison.
A change to a 19T front puts the revs exactly at 5000 @ 80mph.
