Anyone have their Tiger changed to singlekey?

I'm going to have to make some change. My key was taken out of the ignition yesterday, by a passerby. I can't leave it parked in the yard during the day, anymore. Have to lock the garage at night now, too.

Anyway, I'm going to have to re-key the ignition, or just replace it with another one, and while I was at it, I thought I might see about having the luggage all re-keyed to match the ignition. Anyone have this done?

Expect to have a bit challenge getting the ignition lock off.

Triumph use shear bolts, hence there is nothing to grip the remaining stub with. They are also recessed in.

You may be lucky with mole grips or small wrench but its likely you will have to remove a lot of the front end just to get access. You may then end up chiseling them out.

The only reason I know is because mine fell out!!!

I replaced them with socket heads.

Regards

Chris

So does everyone else (both bikes and cars) and I've never understood why, as a thief will just smash the thing rather than try to undo bolts.

Just smashing a lock cylinder is not as effective as it once was. There are a number and variety of electrical interlocks on most modern designs that require a bit more creativity. I've used a needle-nose Vice-Grip with some success for getting the blind feasteners out but never tried the Tiger. Others have tac-welded a rod to the fastener head.
Noticed that my ignition/fuel/seat lock is a different key blank than the bags. Is that because of different model years?

No I think they're all like that. The luggage key seems to have fewer indentations therefore probably easier to pick.

I expect I got jammed but I had an ignition key copy made and the blank was $26. Sometime about being a special import that very few vehicles use. And he didn't have the luggage blank which saved me a bundle.

sorry to hear about the theft of your key, I once dropped mine in Vancouver, and thought I was screwed, but the guy turned it in to a bar nearby...lucky.

As for the tiger having two keys..I too believe they are all like that. At least mine is, and its an 03. I have found that most places cant do a copy cause the keys are kind of unique, thus you probably have to buy the blank first from the dealer. I did lose my keys once to another bike and a locksmith was able to make new ones...but it was not stolen, and you have to worry about the thief returning for your bike....that sucks. -Mike

I am currently convinced the 'thief' is probably under 10 years old, and it was likely deposited in a neighborhood yard or alley. There is also the possibilty that it is in the bottom of a toy box. So, maybe somebody's mother will turn it up, take a look at it, and remember that I have the only Triumph around.

Haven't found a locksmith with any blanks, so I guess I'll have to pick one up when I get near a city with a dealer.
