Hey all, this one may seem silly, but I have a bike jack and never even thought to check this out before hand, but the exhaust runs under the bike and besides that (forgot to look a second time and verify but...) it looks like the engine is a stressed frame member. Question is...when you guys need to, how are you jacking your tigers up off of the ground??

TIA...

Use a combination of wood under the motor supported by a jack, two straps from the ceiling of the garage under the top fork yoke,if i've got the bike on the work bench then i tie it down with straps at the rear of the bike, and the wood and jack under the motor.

I presume your on about takeing the front wheel out.

I use a bike jack with one of the supports under the center stand and the other with a hockey puck next to the exhaust so that the engine is taking the load from the puck (does that make sense?).

It seems to work with no problem even though it looks like the exhaust is still exposed to the jack but it doesn't get bent.

I put 'er on the center stand, and jack the front up using a small floor jack and a 2 x 4 vertical under the top clamp. It's a little wobbly until I get the front wheel off, then rest the forks on stacked lumber. Yeah, I realized shortly after the Tiger came home that my motorcycle jack was useless - maybe the next bike will fit it...

i had a flat after church one sunday. i borrowed a neighbors floor jack, but no amount of blocking seemed safe. i finally borrowed a tow strap and a comealong. i threw it over a tree limb and hooked up to the rear rack. that was wobbly so i ran another strap to the handle bars like a tripod. i sure wish i had a camera. desprate times call for desprate measures.

If just the front needs to come off the ground, with the bike on the side stand, have someone place a cinderblock under the bike while you haul back on the handlebars.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions.

winger, it's about getting the front wheel off, yes. I'll need tires soon. It was also convenient for lubing the chain. I don't currently have a center stand.

So I guess what I'm really hearing is "people find the best ways to suit them" but there is no standard method. I wonder what the dealers do.

In any case, I really appreciate the replies!! Good info.

Front and back Micron paddock stands and you get the entire bike up in the air for taking both wheels off.

I was thinking about this, but I thought these basically depend on the nuts for the wheels extending beyond the fork/swingarm. So these should work, maybe with some special fitting or whatever, on the Tigers? If anyone happens to have a link to exactly what we need that would be excellent!! In the meantime I'll do some research.

Thanks as always!!
