I ordered the K&N air filter today and expect the dealer to have it tomorrow afternoon. I removed the old filter when I got home and guess what? I found a K&N filter already installed.
How do I clean it, treat it?
Time is of the essence here as I can probably get the $50 dollars back if I can salvage the one I have.

Back in my YZ125 days we used to clean the airfilters out in a bucket of diesel then soak it in engine oil.... Something tells me I'm going to get shot down in flames for even mentioning that....

the K&N filter is cloth and not foam TT so no diesel and engine oil. the last time i cleaned one i used liquid washing soap stuff that goes in the washing machine thingy :???: i let it soak for a while and just run water through it till the bubbles stopped and it looked clean. dont blast it with a power washer or it will rip. let it drip dry, once its completely dry, re treat it with K&N oil.

simple EH !! :???:

Update:
Capital Triumph of Raleigh charged me a $10 restocking fee for the filter I didn't need.
I soaked and agitated the filter in a tupperware container with hot water and dishwashing liquid.
The filter and I then soaked in the bathtub for an hour while I read RIDER magazine and had a mason jar of cheap red.
The filter then spent the next day on top of the air conditioner vent.
Advance auto sold me a "Recharging Kit" for $10, the cleaner and oil included.
I carefully sprayed the filter and reassembled the Tiger (new plugs too).
Runs great.
I now only have to re-dissasemble and put in the four air filter screws that were left over - OOPS.

I not yet had to clean the one in my Tiger, but the one in my old BMW I used to clean in petrol. Let it dry thoroughly and then re oil with pukka K&N stuff. Filter the petrol and stick it in the tank. No waste. Mind you..I wouldn't try that last bit with fuel injection. Those old Bing carbs would burn anything.

Ten bones to restock a filter they should stock anyway? Time for a new dealer. As to the best way to rejuvinate a K&N: throw it away and install a proper paper filter. Well, that should start some trouble. Before you tell me about the performance gains with K&N over stock, you'd better have been to the track with both and compared times. I have.

I thought, by increasing the air and fuel volume, going to the K&N and remap, that one would gain HP.

I could see that there would be a, physical, limit but I don't understand.

Please enlighten me.

Sounds good. I just can't quantify it. My experience is shared by an associate who drag races Mustangs in sub-10 second brackets. He says it makes no difference if he uses an AC paper filter, a K&N or no filter at all. Same times. I'll take the superior filtering of paper over the K&N any day.
