Those springy little clips that go round the swing arm adjusters bolts (I think).

Manual says to replace them every time the chains adjusted but where do you buy them from ?

As you can see I don't even know what they're called, size, tensile strength, etc etc

I assume you mean the circlips that go over the ends of the spindle. You don't have to touch them to adjust the chain as you don't loosen the spindle. You just have to slacken off the bolts clamping the eccentrics then rotate the eccentrics using 12mm allen keys to the desired position. Make sure you do it on the centre stand, and most people here err on the side of slackness in the chain.
