I need to replace a hand guard on my tiger but can't get the ruddy thing off. I've undone the nut underneath but the bolt won't pull through. Can't see anything inside the assembly thats also holding the guard on.

I know I'm being a total cretin, but any advice gratefully received.

You need to undo the bolt from the top as well and then pull it out, it acts as the pivot for the lever and screws into the bottom of the lever housing. The nut only holds the bottom guard mounting in place.

HTH.

Thanks for your reply Graeme,

Unfortunately my bolt is a smooth round head type with nothing to get a grip on.

Doesn't it have an allen key socket in the head ?

Sounds like a bit of diy gone on there, and you can't tap it out gently with a hammer ? ie it's definitely latched onto a thread in the bracket ?

You might have to saw a groove in the top of it to get a screwdriver head in.

I have 10 thumbs but have still managed to do this once to get a rounded bolt head off before.

The bolt actually screws into the lever pivot - the nut is just a lock nut so you don't have to tighten the bolt up too far. Has someone put one of those little plastic filler caps into the allen screw hole to make it look pretty?

Thanks a lot Ian. That's exactly what it is, a cunningly crafted push on stopper covering the allen key head. "Problem" sorted.
