2006 Tiger, 2000 miles.
I find that when riding through towns at slow speeds, under very little load, the bike can be prone to surgeing. Also, when hot, the engine will hunt slightly when at tick over at lights etc.
I know this is classic fuel injection characteristics and my old BMW r1100gs was worse, but that was on an early injection system.
I would have though present day systems would be much better. Certainly no problems under load.
Does anyone else notice this? Or is it just me/my bike. I know that Suzuki will often load a different ECU program if you presented with similar complaints on their bikes.
Any feedback welcome. Otherwise, smashing bike Grommit!

Hi Krull,
Most of us with newer Tigers suffer from this. Do a search for "surging" in the Tiger forums and you'll find loads of info. Also look for O2 sensor, as this has cured it for lots of people

Sofa has covered it really.
Were it gets complicated is if you can't find the info, there have been loads of 'Tunes' over the years(since99) just because you've got the latest one doesn't mean it's the best!!!which you can have downloaded at your dealer.
Some dealers are very good with the Tune info others haven't got a clue.
All the triples hunt to a degree,a combination of the 'Tune' installed, the general tune of your Tiger, and if your still not happy try an 02 sensor of which war and piece has been written!!!!

Cured the problem by running track can program with standard can. This after advice from Hinckley.
Not legal, but richens the mixture a little and therefore gives the engine an easier time.

Nice one Timian, didn't know about that. Mine still surges like that "running out of fuel" feeling when filtering. Bike's about to have its 12,000 mile service so will ask 'em...

Krull,
Ask your dealer to reinstall the tune and balance the throttle bodies - this cured it for me on my last Tiger.

I've never noticed the problem, in both standard form or Can and K&N with race tune.
It's got to be something other than the tune. I would guess throttle bodies.

Interesting relpies thanks. So it's not just me then. As the bike only has 2k miles, I would like to (innocently) think that the trottle bodies are balanced....

Been a while since we had one of these threads, mercifully. Most Tigers do 'hunt' a little, and it's mostly not a problem.
In cases where it really is more bothersome, you'll quickly notice that the O2 sensor removal is the quasi-official religion of this particular message board.
But going open-loop only hides the problem; it doesn't actually cure the underlying cause. The true cause is sometimes a faulty sensor, and replacing it with a new one restores normal operation. More often it indicates throttle body imbalance or air leaks, which can still somewhat impair the engine performance even if the RPM stays more constant after blinding the engine management system to the exhaust gas errors. And, as also mentioned, it can be the wrong fuel injection map causing too-lean burning.
Do as you wish, but personally, I'd rather know when there IS a problem and try to actually fix it.
