I noticed that the speedo occasionally jumps for an instant. Also, when at a standstill and moving the handlebars back and forth, I can feel what seems to be a slight pop in the front end - no noise only feel.
Idea anyone?

Have you had any service done on the front wheel or axle recently?

I would check to make sure that the speedo pickup on the front axle is installed correctly... Two of my friends, one with a Sprint ST and the other with a Sprint RS, both assembled the pickup incorrectly and destroyed it...

afraid ,you will have to take the front wheel of,and check the speedo drive, its made out of a type of ceramic, and if it cracks,or gets badley worn (grease well when replacing),the speedo becomes erratic,a new speedo drive complete, inc cable is £45.00 from triumph, but if you buy one secondhand, check its not to worn.

as you put it all back together, make sure the lugs line up,otherwise you will will smash it again (been there, done that!!) :-D

Thanks marauder,
Good idea. The price is reasonable for the kit.

You guys were right. The speedometer drive assy is in pieces.
The left wheel bearing is also very tight. Could the bearing problem have been created by the incorrect install of the speedo?

very doughtfull as the bearings can only go so far into the hub, it is worth replacing the bearings while you are doing the work on the front wheel, there is another thread on here i posted on this morning giving the bearing numbers, they are a standard bearing and very easy to buy from any bearing supplier.

they are a very easy job to fit as well, all you need is a large socket to pust them back in with and a long drift to get them out.

Checked with the dealer. The speedo drive assy is $127 and change. I sure could use a good used one- anyone?
