1050 burning oil?

I have an 07' 1050 Tiger that is burning Mobil 1 4T 10W40 fully synthetic(as recommended by Triumph). I broke the bike in properly and don't ride it unnecessarily hard. Went for a 400 mile ride today(Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale and back) and had to top it off again with probably 8 oz of oil(second top off in past 2k miles) when I got home. There is no smoke and no leak. The bike runs great and has just over 5k miles.

Anyone else experiencing a similar issue?

I'm considering switching back to 15w50 if I can find the dang stuff.

Some 1050 motors seem to burn more oil than others but without any detrimental effect.

Seem to hear this story too often. My 955i does the same. Seems to be the luck of the draw. I'm using the 15/50.

Thanks. I'm going to switch back to 15w50 fully synthetic and see if that slows down the consumption. I found Repsol fully syn 15w50 online at kneedraggers.com. The Mobil 1 15w50 seems to be very difficult to find. No dealerships in my area. I'll post a review on the new oil once I can get some miles on it.

After some online research it seems that a lot of tigers out there with the new 1050s are burning oil and it's to be expected.

My 955 burns oil no matter what the weight or brand. So I buy whatever Wallmart has for cheap. Right now I'm running Rotella synthetic. Sometimes I run Mobil 1.

Check your breather hose at the alternator cover for oil. You may need a new oil seal. $35 + $11 for gasket. About 30 minutes, not counting having the seal pressed.

This doesn't apply to 2006 and newer bikes with the labyrinth breather system.
